If this tool is faulty, many activities will not successively take place. It can experience faultiness when it has a fault in wrench. Therefore it should have ability to withstand some for and have a good bending feature. It should have the ability generate to withstand force of 30kN with minimum operating speed of 10 mm/sec. This means that operation speed is a significant element in the performing its functions. Furthermore, it should manufactured using a small rolling mill maximum Capacity of 50 Tonne, Roll Diameters of 200mm, roll Face Width of 180mm and operates at surface speed of 12m/min. The tool to be manufactured is shown in the diagram below Figure 1: Tool to be manufactured The engineering drawing shows above is the abbreviated design drawing of the current survivor tool. Specifically, the gross weight of the tool is much lighter than a existing tool meanwhile the designed speed of the 10mm/s is far slower. Properties of the tool The multi-tool will be used for survival by individuals on a journey or on adventure. The tool will be made of stainless steel with ability to open bottles and cans, ability to measure as well as drive screws. It can also be used to cut using small knife, it can cut also using double filling saw, it can also be used for wire cutting using double staggered filling saw. It will have a ruler to make some measurements and a compass for deducting ones home. The features of the tool are summarized below: Features Description For cans To opens cans such as of soft drinks Knife To perform small tasks such as first aid knives Hole for key-ring To be carried using key-ring and among keys Ruler To take measurements of small items bottles Open lids from bottles such as sodas Flat-head screwdriver To held in tightening screws of home appliances Positioning wrench Wrench Adjustable wrench Direction recognizer-compass Double staggered filing saw The above features are significant element in the multi-tool as travelers and adventurers need to do some things as they continue with their activities. Material properties These equipments will require different types of material composition to make it have the ability to perform it functions. The materials will be categorized as budget material 1,budget material 2, premium material 1 and premium material 2. The composition of these materials is shown in the tables below Budget material 1 C Mn Fe 0.2 0.5 Balance Budget material 2 C Si Mn Cr Mo Ni Fe 0.4 0.3 1.5 2.0 0.2 1.1 Balance Premium material 1 C Mn Si Cr Ni Fe 0.08 2.0 0.75 19.0 9.0 Balance Premium material 2 Al V Ti 6.0 4.0 Balance Spectroscopy of the required multi-tool The materials for the this type of tool will need more Iron than other material thus choosing of Budget material 1 and Premium material 1 , and the values for the Poisson ratio and the Young’s Modulus are listed below. Material Properties In the equation x0-x represents deformation during the pressure while x≥x0 represents a contact force when there is no force. pressuroccurs when x>x0. The dumping co-efficient is represented by C while D represents penetration debt. This equation has an S which is written as follows: S = where , , In this case change in d = and is deformation of the body that is contact with the broken tooth. Stiffness is presented by K and is calculated by using the following follows; The materials for the tool the values for the Poisson ratio and the Young’s Modulus are listed below. Item Young’s Modulus Poisson Ratio Premium material 1 0.29 Budget material 1 Bend test value Values The bend ability of the toll will be Speed Span Length Peak Load Max. Ext 10 mm/sec 45mm l=68mm, w=45mm, t=1.7mm 1045 N 1.76 mm This will tested and graphed as shown below; The pattern of the plotted points on the graph slopes from right to left of the scatter plot suggesting a positive relationship between the extension and load. This kind of association simply implies that as the length increases load until it breaks. This kind of findings simply goes with the general expectation. Theoretically the load increase recorded would be linear. Measurements The measurements of a functioning multi-tool will be done using Instron instrument which has 30kN and weigh less than 1kg or 9.8N. The combination of such values is generally used during the calculation of the general output values therefore characterizing a certain mechanical condition regarding the multi-tool. As such, the initial values do match up to the overall state of the multi-tool while the ensuing value normally corresponds to a state of the specified bearings. Considering the second value, it may be used in similar manner like detecting other mechanical problems that are characterized during impacts. They do contain the data that is supposed to be used during the analysis that does follow. In addition, they also contain particularly direct indication regarding the multi-tool that is being monitored. This is due to the fact that as the multi-tool does wear out more when with a fault. There have been accurate analyses meant to figure out very well the microstructure of a tool so as to provide appropriate dimension. The typical information includes the race diameter: inner and outer size, particular number of balls and their sizes. However, there are some manufacturers that do change particular designs so as to complicate the specifications. Consequently, the specified sizes are not changed. What the manufactures guarantee is that the typical information concerning parameters: size, load deployed: is not easily known. Comparison between target value and existing modules The performance in different aspect can be evaluated by comparing with the target values. In the first Span, the max load of the 9.8N performance meet the requirement of target value. Additionally, four modules are all quite good in the performance of max load on the surface, exceeding 30kN, which can successfully cope with the any pressure. List of equipments 1). Small rolling mill which will have maximum capacity of 50 Tones with roll diameters of 200mm while roll face width will 180mm, Surface speed will be 12m/min and Max Roll Aperture will have metric of 30mm 2). Muffle furnace will have melting temperature of maximum 1200 °C with a chamber dimensions of (mm) : W = 150mm, H = 130mm, Depth = 220mm and have ability to use Atmosphere Inert gas of Argon 3). To test hardening Instron of 30kN will be used. This has maximum load capacity of 30kN with maximum test speed of 16mm/s. it has l Test Space of 1.2m and test tensile and compression. Scoring process The scoring were rated using the following scale Relative performance rating Much worse than 1 Worse than 2 Same as 3 Better 4 Much better than 5 After the design is manufacture process. Improving the precision and high quality of the raw materials are two significant aspects which can develop the tool performance. The tool can be integrated when all components completed. The next vital step is testing. Summary The increases of load beyond the recommended level lead to failure of the tool. The design ascertains how multi-tool could be coordinated under various variations of its parameters to give a more reliable and controllable functioning of multi-tool. It is from this understanding that this report is based in an attempt of communicating these findings. The increase of the thickness or diameter will increase the surface area leading to improvement of multi-tool. Therefore, a slight change in parameters could bring an effect on the entire processing unit. How these changes could be coordinated to give a more desired aftermath was integral in this design. Of these, three types of heat exchangers were used for the entire experimental design. This kind of design was important to help compare overall efficiency of multi-tool at different functions This will help in design regarding tool and the manufacturers and the users are keen enough to include certain diagnostics features located in the software meant to improve reliability and scalability. Apart from the location of precise harmonic mechanism particularly in the supposed line which is known signature analysis. There are other signals like the speed, unnecessary and necessary noise as well as vibration generally is explored regarding their frequencies and their contents. In addition, there are other different techniques like the force as well as chemical analysis which are also deployed as a way if establishing the nature of particular elements and the degree of the multi-tool. Individual reflection While the project was overall successful, there are still a number of valuable lessons which we learned from the project. One of these lessons is the importance of time management. We had a lot of issues in managing our time, which at times was more of an inconvenience for us as well as for others. We also found it very difficult to carry out the design process. Communication was our greatest weak point. During the entire time, we found a number of instances were neither of us was on the same page. Working as a single unit would have been better for us in order to develop a consistent report in a short span of time. The overall project was carried out very successfully and we achieved our project objectives in due time. In this regard, understanding the differences of each individual team member is necessary which helps in the development of the team as a whole. It is only through this understanding that the team will be able to perform exceptionally well. The reason behind is simply because that the team members know where each of them lacks behind and the others would therefore step up for that team members and make sure that he or she is able to perform at the same level as the rest of the team. For this project, given the nature of the task assigned to us, we worked as a team of four. Read More
