? Phase 2 Individual Project Overview of the Scenario According to the scenario, IRTC Manufacturing Enterprises is involved in the up-gradation of its legacy billing system. Moreover, the enterprise will be performing major up-gradation of the new web-based version of the system along with updating mainframe legacy arrangement. The up-gradation process will encompass radical changes to the current business processes, alterations in current jobs as well as new positions. The management of the enterprise strongly believed that with the up-gradation or the development of its legacy billing system, the enterprise can attain huge profitability and enhance maximum productivity in this competitive landscape. Main Responsibilities of Each Role End User The role of end users especially in information technology (IT) system based development is much vital as they are considered to be the ultimate users of new software on a daily basis. It is the end-users who are aware of the data present in the legacy systems. The primary responsibility of the end-users is to directly interrelate with different computer workstations or terminals in order to effectively conduct their assigned work. The end-users are quite able to differentiate between the formal description and constraints among others for performing their work along with informal practices. Furthermore, they are able to convey relevant valuable information to the users’ representatives relating with the process. In addition, end-users may require participating in the activities concerning Quality Assurance as well. Most importantly, periodically developing functional departments is also viewed to be the other prime responsibilities of the end users (Damodaran, 1996, pp. 363-377). Business Analyst The primary function of the business analysts is to develop means in order to cultivate confidence and respect from both the IT and the business aspects of the organizations. A business analyst is required to understand the stakeholders, employees and customers and their needs ought to be served effectively. Contextually, the most frequent responsibility of the business analysts has been viewed to resolve various problems concerning with the processes and the functions within the organizations while dealing with legacy system development. Furthermore, business analysts are required to combine various functions in order to utilize effective technologies for developing the overall operational procedures. A business analyst is liable to monitor the new IT system after its full implementation (Hernandez, 2012, pp. 1-4). Team Leader The role of a team leader is extremely crucial relating to the aspect of project management. Accordingly, it is necessary that a team leader is flexible in managing his/her team members for successfully completing a project. It has been ascertained that a team leader should perform his or her tasks based on the situations rather than being rigid in following his/her own managing style. Moreover, team leaders should be capable of motivating and encouraging his/her project team. The team leader should be able to control the behavior of his/her project team and support them while performing their respective tasks. The team leader should also be able to promote healthy affiliation among the team members and promote effective communication in order to smoothly achieve the organizational goals. It is worth mentioning that smooth completion of a project largely depends upon the activities that perform by an efficient team leader (Roman, 2011, pp. 1-5). Skills Necessary for the Respective Positions Skills Necessary for End-Users Concerning with end-users skills, high level competencies and experience are required for adopting as well as exploiting effectual decisions. Moreover, the end-users must possess proper knowledge, know-how and power in order to shape the improvement in accordance with the needs of the organizations. At the same time, the end-users should have the willingness and enthusiasm during the course of the IT development in order to seek the best outcome from the project development. In addition, they should have the ability to clearly convey information and ideas related with IT development (Damodaran, 1996, pp. 363-377). Skills Necessary for Business Analyst Business analysts should possess innovative ideas and effective team building skills. A business analyst should be able to think in highly modernized way rather than adhering to traditional ways of performing various tasks. The business analysts should have exceptional decision-making along with problem-solving skills. In addition, the business analysts must possess enhanced interpersonal skills and the ability to build confidence as well as to pay respect towards the senior executives. Specially mentioning, a business analyst should be capable to establish clear communication with every organizational staff. Furthermore, the business analysts should also have the capacity to perform independently as well as organize workload with reduced direct supervision. It is quite necessary for the business analysts to possess the ability of speeding up the entire operational processes. In precise, a responsible business analyst should bear strong technical management as well as leadership skills (Hernandez, 2012, pp. 1-4). Skills Necessary for Team Leader In order to enhance the performance of the entire project team, a project team leader is required to perform various tasks. The most essential skill that is required for a team leader is to have the proper understanding about different sorts of behavioral styles. Such understanding eventually helps the team leaders to more effectively lead his/her project team. Different behaviors among the project team may render diverse types of reactions. Hence, a team leader should possess effective skills to manage these differences in the project team behaviors. It shall also facilitate in effective interaction with the project team. Effective listening and communicating skills are also necessary for a team leader. Team leader should ensure that the right messages intended to transmit to the project team is meaningfully conveyed with no distractions. At the same time, team leaders should praise the outstanding tasks performed by the team members facilitating in motivating their moral to perform better. In addition, a team leader should also bear enhanced problem- solving quality. The effective problem solving skills might facilitate in creating cordial affiliation amid the team members at large (Roman, 2011, pp. 1-5). Selection of Candidates and Reason behind Their Selection End User In order to perform the task of end-user, Terry has been selected. The primary reason for her selection is that she has been involved in the original installation in every upgrade since last ten years in the enterprise. Moreover, she possesses potential knowledge about the systems and most vitally she is available 24 hours a week. At the same time, she is much excited about the web based package and the functionality it provides. Nonetheless, she is concerned with the ability of end-users efficiency for the new system. This illustrates that she has proper knowledge about the needs of the end-users. However, hourly wage of Terry is also quite reasonable than other candidates, but it can be stated that she owes the necessary skills to serve as an end-user. Hence, as a project manager, it could be affirmed that Terry is the right candidate for working as an end-user. Business Analyst For the purpose of performing the task of business analyst, Pat is being selected. This can be owing to the reason Pat has been involved with the enterprise in upgrading several projects and he has got the potential to act as a business analyst. Evidently, he has been widely involved in several up-gradations prior to this project and he had greater experience of working in IT development system. It can be argued that his hourly wage is quite higher than other candidates, but he has got the experience which often significantly matters while performing the task of a business analyst. In addition, he is available for 24 hours a week and also possesses the knowledge as well as the competencies to act as the developer and tester which ultimately make him a perfect choice for performing the task of a business analyst. Team Leader In order to perform the task of a team leader, Chris has been selected. Although he is new to the IT department, he has the expertise in dealing with dissimilar sorts of behaviors. Evidently, Chris has been involved in dealing with customer service representative. Contextually, as a project manager, it can be stated that Chris can manage other staffs better than any other candidates and understand the behavior of his team members quite well. In addition, he also got the experience working with web programming and software testing techniques. The hourly wage of Chris is quite low than other candidates and can be raised as he is available for 24 hours in a week. Thus, on the basis of the above discussion, Chris can be viewed to be the most appropriate candidate for performing the task of a team leader. Problem Encountered While Making Selections While making the above selections, no significant problems have been encountered. However, it was quite challenging as a project manager to make these selections. Undoubtedly, it can be ascertained that all the candidates were qualified and skilled in their respective areas. Hence, it was quite hard to choose the right candidate for the assigned positions. However, the above selection has been made on the basis of the roles and skills required for performing each of the task.
