Journey of the Universe: Reflection Paper The Swimme and Mary, of “Journey of the Universe” craft there points in the most perfect way to explain the essence of interrelationship between humanity and the universe. The authors use their story in illustrating that the future of human beings is not a mystery as they have continue to live from the beginning. In order to make the book legitimate, they interrelate between science and religion as the two pillars supporting the essence of life. This paper present a review of the book based on three major ideas raised by the others. The ideas as they will unfold serves as the basis for the thesis statement: Through human interrelation with each other, plants and other animals, on the Earth surface they would find solution to every emerging ecological and social challenge in life. One of the major ideas useful for understanding the point made by the authors is in page 5 “The discovery that the universe has expanded and is still expanding is one of the greatest of human story…” (Swimme and Mary, p. 5). The authors use this idea to illustrate on how the expansion of the Earth, from the beginning can explain its relation to human beings. Even though the universe is expanding making the galaxies to move from each other, the authors asserts that there is another force in action, gravity, and acting opposite. Gravity helps in pulling the universe together and their counteraction with the expansion of the universe has occurred since the beginning of the world. Knowledge that the two opposing force have shaped the universe makes the authors interpreted this double process as a indicative of life, movement of breath and blood. Intuitively, the double process alikens to the expansion and contraction of human’s heart; consequently, this supports the breathing and exhalation of human beings. In this idea the authors try to raise a question about the basis for human being alive in the world; what continues to support their breathing process in the world. This question enlightens one on the need for knowing the fate of humans in the world, since breathing is the inherent process which makes human alive. After getting knowledge about this question, a reader can get to know about the fate of human beings in the universe. Everybody, from the age of two would like to know the mechanism of breathing. From the book, the authors offer possible hints to answering the question about breathing and exhalation. To continue living, every human formulate their reasoning about this question; intuitively, there a possibility for finding the most suiting answer by interconnecting the different ideas. In human life, this question serves inherently in explaining their uniformity with each other. Since every human being, besides animals and plants, are able to breathe equal to each other, this illustrates that there is no difference between them regardless of race, religion or status in the society. In religion, this question illustrates on how the creator of the world values each and every of His creation. He indiscriminately made it possible for every plant and animal to have the basis of life, which in this case is breathing, from the beginning of the world. This means that all creation are important in front of the creator. In this book, the question about breathing helps the author to bring the importance of the universe in supporting the humans in it. As it contract and relax, through the double process, humans are able to breathe out and exhale. The second idea is “To commune, may be one of the deepest tendencies in the universe” (p. 51). This idea helps the authors in enforcing their concept about the increasing interconnectedness and the deepening intimacy within the Earth. From the beginning, imaginations have made it possible for human beings to interrelate with each other and care for their children. This means that time, human beings may establish a great unity and life with any animal because of love. This illustrates the importance of human passion, parental care and desire in driving the world. In this idea, the authors try to raise a question about the basis for continued togetherness between human beings. They extend this togetherness to the animals especially the ocean life consequently making the question even more important because the two (ocean life and human beings) are of different species. Intuitively, this question is significant to everybody who would like to know the fate of human beings, on the basis of their relationship to each other. in human life, this question is important in improving harmony of life which has always existed and supported their well-being. By answering this question, human beings are able to portray a bright future living with each other and their animals. In religion, the question serves in strengthening the need unity as illustrated in most teachings. Each and every religious individual looks forward to living harmoniously with each other. In this book, the authors use this question in enforcing their view about the ability of humans to solve their contemporary social challenges. To illustrate the significance of sexual choices in the evolution of the world, the authors use this idea “In the animal world, sexual relationship is all about making reproductive choices by choosing partners and acting out courtship rituals” (Swimme and Mary, p. 75). From the beginning of the world, female mammals have been known to spend more time in choosing their partners based on their need for caring for their offspring. The male partner gives an assurance to the female that they will have enough time in caring for the offspring. This point illustrates that reproduction, as an intrinsic element of evolution, is woven in a fabric of life whereby the animals will continue to care for their offspring with love and passion. In this, a central question that comes out is basis for sexual choices among the animals, which has persisted from the beginning. Naturally, sexual relationship has served as the most intrinsic factor in increasing the population of the earth. In this question, a reader would like to know why animals have never stopped mating with each other, and most of all choosing their partners for courtship. Answering this question is important for humans to realize the need for desire, passion and care in shaping their daily lives. Through this human beings can visualize reproduction as a sense of passion and care for next generation. In this book, the question aids the authors in illustrating the legitimacy of humans continuing to flourish together on the Earth’s surface. Through answering the question, a reader gets to know the essence of intricate web of life whereby generation comes after generation. The story “Journey of the Universe” is a prototype that gives sense to the morals in the contemporary society. The three ideas raised above indicate a sustained Earth, whereby human beings are able to solve their ecological and social challenges based on morals. In the first idea the authors talks about the significance of unity and loyalty among the humans. Since they are able to breathe equal to each other, this is an illustration that there is no difference between them regardless of race, religion or status in the society. Further, in the second idea the authors illustrate on human beings finding a bright future living with each other and their animals after embracing togetherness and harmony with each other in the society.
