?Personal ment The wealth of experiences gained in diverse professional sectors had enabled me to recognize the crucial bearing of pursuing a Master of International Business (MIB) Degree. With academic backgrounds in law and business, contemporary applications practiced in one’s current employment opened increased awareness of the need to delve into gaining in-depth understanding on the interconnectedness of global organizations. One’s short-term professional goal is to establish and operate a law firm that provides diverse legal services and eventually embark on expanding in the international sphere. My long-term goal is to become a successful entrepreneur, like Richard Branson and Allen Sugar, both renowned British entrepreneurs. However, I envision to venture as an entrepreneur not only London; but as an instrumental entrepreneurial contributor on a global realm. The Hult International Business School’s MIB degree is renowned worldwide to accord strategically innovative instructional methods that provide qualified students with the conducive learning environment for the program. Through their LEAP method focusing on hand-on and innovative approach, I am confident that both short-term and long-term professional goals would be effectively achieved. My educational background and current professional experiences would significantly contribute to the abovementioned plans as these undertakings have appropriately established the theoretical and practical framework for an MIB degree. By immersing in a foundation program from an International Foundation Programme in Business Studies from the London Metropolitan University, the theoretical framework for higher education in the business sphere is befittingly honed. I did not have the chance then to pursue higher education courses in the field of business management since working as a legal assistant for the UK Immigration Law Advisory Service in 2007 had made me determined and committed to pursue a degree in law. The course modules were all subservient as they delved into intricate concepts that are relevantly applicable in contemporary organizational settings. My current occupation in a supervisory and managerial capacity made me realize that more theoretical concepts are required to increase one’s competencies, qualifications and skills in performing the responsibilities expected of managers in a dynamic business environment. Through past employments, I had the opportunities to assume diverse functions and responsibilities ranging from that of an administrative assistant for Yoga Magazine, a customer service representative for Max Telecom, and working as a bank teller in Askari Bank, Ltd. in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. These job responsibilities enabled me to gain personal and professional discipline in adherence to the highest quality of service to be accorded to customers and clientele of diverse cultural orientations. I gained proficiencies in different languages such as English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and Arabic. I still plan to expand learning to communicate in other languages as I pursue the MIB degree. Further, my media exposure working as a host of a popular weekly talk show on a popular TV channel; as well as hosting a weekly Internet TV show focusing on discussing immigration and human rights law issues within the British-Asian community accords the development of communication skills and the credibility needed as a public figure. As such, much preparation and mental focus is eminently recognized, as part of one’s responsibility as a host, to gain the confidence and support of the discriminating viewers. At hindsight, I am aware that despite the knowledge and skills that were already developed, there is still a pressing need to focus on improving leadership skills, particularly the essential skills that are intertwined with assuming the position and responsibility of a manager and an entrepreneur: the skills of introspection, conflict-resolution, entrepreneurial, information-processing, decision-making, resource generation and allocation skills, and the ability to establish and maintain a network of productive associates. These skills are needed to achieve my defined professional goals and I am convinced that Hult International Business School will assist in achieving these goals. I am very impressed with the published details contained in Hult’s MIB degree compendium. Hult has been widely renowned for garnering accolades as top-ranking educational institution for International Experience and for International Business (Hult: MIB Overview, n.d.). Hult’s exemplary pool of highly professional faculty members, in conjunction with the well-designed curriculum would ultimately develop leadership skills through the Leadership and Teambuilding course; entrepreneurial and introspective skills through Global Management and the Lifetime Career Management courses; resource-generation and allocation skills would be harnessed through International Accounting, Global Economics and Strategy course; and decision-making and conflict-resolution skills would likewise be addressed by the Consulting Methods, Strategy and Corporate Social Responsibility courses (Hult: MIB Curriculum, n.d.). Likewise, I am made aware that the MIB degree from Hunt could eventually be converted to an MBA degree due to the synchronized curriculum. During the time that the initial stages of the establishment and operation of the planned law firm is being undertaken, I likewise plan to convert the MIB degree into a full MBA degree program from Hult, after duly complying with the years of working experience and the required number of additional credits. I am confident that enrolling at Hult through the MIB program would provide me with the most effective learning environment that would cultivate the skills needed to fulfill my professional goals. Academic Excellence Scholarship Is academic excellence relevant and important for a successful career? How will your academic success help you in the business world? What are your future aspirations and how will your education help you to achieve them? The potential outcome for academic excellence is evaluated by academicians in terms of establishing any direct relationship to gaining a successful career. According to an article I read entitled “Career Mobility Built on Professional Competence” and written by Victor Deyglio (2006), “successful careers build on professional competence and academic excellence” (p. 1). To validate the credibility of the discourse, I delved into further research and recognized that there is a need to determine what factors comprise academic excellence. In a study conducted by Halawah (2006) entitled “The effect of motivation, family environment, and student characteristics on academic achievement” and published online in the Journal of Instructional Psychology, the author explicated stated that “intelligence is not the only determinant of academic achievement… motivation served as a mediating variable between home background, personal characteristics, and educational attainment” (Halawah, 2006, p. 1). Educational attainment was likewise evaluated by Wagner (2008) in his article entitled “Rigor Redefined” and published in the Educational Leadership. Wagner determined whether current schools and universities are providing the most effective instructional methods and approach that develop skills needed in contemporary and future careers. The findings of Wagner’s (2008) study reveals that there is a need to redefine excellent instruction and to cater the instructional approach to ensure that the skills developed would be the ones most needed in the workforce. Therefore, the response to the question: Is academic excellence relevant and important for a successful career? is yes, in so far that the skills honed are the perfect match for one’s future career. In one’s specific perspective, the academic achievement gained would be particularly beneficial in the business world in terms of being an instrumental contributor to the sharing and effective communication of the knowledge learned across vast educational programs and modules. By assuming the role of a host in a popular TV channel, in conjunction with hosting a weekly Internet TV show, the theoretical backgrounds learned from the Business Studies at the International Foundation Programme and course modules in law are most appropriate to establish credibility in contemporary applications. One’s academic success would thereby be a source of core competency and strength in determining reliable sources of information and in applying the strategies needed and crucial in one’s career. As indicated in my personal statement, I am determined to establish and operate a law firm that provides diverse legal services and eventually venture in the global realm. The current educational degree earned, though sufficient to perform current responsibilities as a supervisor and manager for MLC Solicitors and as a dynamic host, one realizes that there is still a need for continuing learning and focusing developing skills that were abovementioned: leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Likewise, with the proliferation of global organizations, those who were regarded as successful in their respective fields of endeavor have been acknowledged to practice corporate social responsibility and support for cultural diversity in their policies and procedures. I bank on Hult’s commitment that “a Hult Master Degree will accelerate your career and boost your income” (Hult:Your Career, n.d. p. 1). As such, by pursuing higher education through the MIB program at Hult International Business School, one would be accorded with the ability to address the areas and skills to be excelled and to achieve the professional goals thereby ultimately earmarked as part of one’s carefully planned endeavors. One would therefore prove that academic excellence is crucial in attaining a successful career.
