Essay on Changing Management and Communication Plan Introduction Riordan manufacturing company was startedby Riordan, a chemistry professor. He obtained several patents to process polymers into high tensile strength plastic substrates. The company has grown due to increasing demand of plastic substrates. Riordan manufacturing company based in California has injection molding process that creates dies, custom fabrication and coloring of plastics. The Georgia site creates unique plastic bottles according to customer specification.

The company’s customers consist of appliances, automotive parts and aircraft manufactures along with beverage makers, healthcare services and department of defense. Customers demand increased demand for larger production of plastics as Fortune 1000 enterprise recognized (Robbins & Judge, 2011).Current Formal StructuresRiordan manufacturing functions in bureaucratic and a system based on formal power structures. According to Riordan manufacturing (Organisations charts Executive), a narrow span of control displays the information.

Product base and manufacturing decision are only based on a central view. The formal power structures in Riordan are mechanically based in nature thereby a managerial hierarchy chain of command works .the structures that have a narrow span of control affects negatively the company. Power structures currently at Riordan manufacturing are employee development without any job satisfaction and internal growth. With a company staff over a thousand then, company needs to create and effective and efficient computer utilization system to speed processing among departments, employees and customers (Robbins & Judge, 2011).

Riordan Manufacturing needs to keep a competitive edge in order to stay competitive by implementing a formal system to manage customer information that has been traditionally been completed by employees. The power and political structures do affect employee behavior. The channels of communication are efficient and cost effective to the organization.Proposed StructuresRiordan manufacturing based on formal power structures can work efficiently if communication levels and management develops a plan diversified to increased job satisfaction by improving channels of communication.

The formal power structures should not exist.Riordan manufacturing company should create a local area network, and connection of an intranet system to enhance efficient communication among departments and suppliers. The network would have a department specific access code and information based on the functionality of the site.Improving the communication is a way suppliers can see specific requirements based on sales. Sales department would have an instant knowledge of the amount of merchandise available to customers and instant inventory showing completion of products stored in a warehouse.

A network set-up should be selected to ensure success of the project. A server network is necessary to implement through a TCP/IP protocol (Robbins & Judge, 2011).The current manufacturing process and inventory system would improve as current supply chain systems update. Every department would have to allocate person process the information pertaining to the process. The information could be accessed via a remote. Intranet solution will allow the process of E-commerce connectivity.Lack of team work in decision making and other behavioral influences may hinder the success of Riordan manufacturing company.

The team should identify the conflicts within the organization and ways to overcome (Robbins & Judge, 2011).ConclusionRiordan’s manufacturing organization has a supply chain process which could enhance a strengthened supplier relationships and improved supply chain management. Assessing their lean production and performance metrics could benefit Riordan. Attributes that benefit the company and its customers include a strict quality control system, innovative solutions implementation as well as instilling a business attitude that responds to dynamic needs of the customer.
