Essay The only thing constant about life is the learning aspect present in it. Every phase of life teaches us a valuable lesson that can help us refrain from the same mistakes in the future endeavors. It is often witnessed that opportunities are grasped with whatever minimal resources one possesses to ensure that the missed opportunity does not become a cause of regret in the life ahead. One such incident also took place in my life when I had to make an important decision without being equipped with complete information and required experience.

I decided to buy my own clinic to start dental practice professionally. Most dentistry students dream of starting their own practice and clinic from their first year of medical education. I was one of those ambitious ones. Having confidence on my dental practice and knowledge about the respective field, I decided to fulfill my dream of owning my own clinic after one year of graduation. At that point of time, I was unaware about the business and management aspects, most suitable location of the clinic, market targets, insurances and strategies to earn profits etc.

However, I had assumed that knowledge about such aspects would be gained with the passage of the time. Therefore, I decided to go with the decision of my heart to buy my own clinic rather than listening to logical thoughts of possessing complete information about running a business. As a result of hasting into the decision, I ended up being compelled to sell the office. The mismanagement and lack of skills to develop effective strategies to generate revenue were coupled with the global financial recession.

A sudden reduction in the number of patients made me lose extensive degree of business and forced me to file for chapter 7 bankruptcy. The patients could not afford to pay my dental services due to the loss of their insurance policies and medical funds by their employers. I did not even have the required knowledge to cope with such situations therefore it all led to the closure of my clinic. However, this incident made me stronger and more determined in life. I have made a pledge with myself that I shall re-launch my business after attaining the required information about business management and economic aspects.

After that incident, I joined a corporate dental chain to gain relevant experience in the respective field. My experience in this organization has taught me about a diverse range of aspects, including patient care, production, insurance, customer relations and strategies to stay profitable in business. This job has even taught me that any venture or decision requires the possession of complete information so that one can handle all kinds of situations and incidents commendably.
