of the of the of the A in Engineering at the Florida During its quarter –century of existence, the Florida State University College of Engineering has been accorded distinguished recognition. Its avowed mission is to engender quality, growth and diversity and there are some 200 odd companies and government organizations that lend their support, for the achievement of this laudatory mission. Civil engineering is deeply involved with community service, development and improvement planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the facilities that are indispensable for contemporary life.

Some examples are transit systems, offshore structures and space satellites. The creation of the man – made environment and protection of the natural environs is ably assisted by civil engineering. As such, the latter is a combination of art and science, and much of the man – made environment owes its existence to this discipline. Civil engineers design, construct and maintain airports, bridges, tunnels, dams, and highways to name a few components of the constructed environment. Modern life is beset with several difficulties, like pollution, energy and potable water requirements, traffic congestion, community planning and urban redevelopment.

These problems are overcome by the efforts of the civil engineers. In addition to this, civil engineers are responsible for the environment and social impact. Thus, the students of this discipline acquire proficiency in addressing intricate social problems. Moreover, they generally develop facilities that not only protect the environment but also promote the values held dear by the community. To my credit, I had procured an engineering internship for the 12th grade. This was due to, in no small measure, attributable to my fascination with engineering.

An idea, the right implements and an indomitable will have produced unimaginably magnificent edifices. In addition to this I have been a member of Sigma Alpha Sigma for three years, and I have tutored all mathematics classes for three years in high school. This speaks volumes for my academic proficiency. I possess a keen analytic mind, which should be of great benefit in the field of engineering. Moreover, I have not neglected the development of my body. It has always been my firm belief that a sound mind subsists in a sound body.

Thus, I participated with great enthusiasm in Volleyball and Soccer. My efforts in this area were rewarded with two varsity letters for Volleyball and one varsity letter for Soccer. I believe in the holistic approach to any problem. In fact, the solution to any problem should consider all the aspects of the problem and not just the principal or apparent ones. Consequently, any course of study should prepare students to address a variety of problems that they could encounter in their career. I had displayed exemplary leadership skills on the sports field, and this constitutes an important facet of the engineering course at the Florida State University.

Furthermore, as a tutor of mathematics, I developed the utmost regard for learning, and this also happens to be a significant element of the teaching imparted by this university. A careful evaluation of my skills and ambitions, Vis – a – Vis the outstanding and unique objectives of the Florida State University, makes it crystal clear that the knowledge, overall development, service orientation, leadership qualities and global awareness provided at this hallowed institution would be difficult if not impossible to obtain elsewhere.

I would consider myself extremely fortunate, if I were to be admitted to this excellent temple of learning.
