Impact of Media on My Life Undoubtedly, media plays a critical role in keeping people informed about various aspects of life irrespective of their geographical location. For centuries, the media has successfully managed to carry out its mandate of informing, educating, and entertaining the masses via various available avenues. Indeed, without media, the world would be a dull place owing to the stressful life coupled with the consequences of ignorance. While in the contemporary world the media is so robust, there are notable stages of evolution especially in the mainstream media that led to the springing up of several outlets across the world. Additionally, technology has accentuated the pace at which the media undergoes revolution. When it comes to the aggressiveness of the media, it is important to note that the student fraternity particularly those in various colleges, are the biggest beneficiaries. In this respect, media has changed the way the youth operate especially with the emergence of the internet technology that has enabled the invention of the social media platform through which everyone can participate. This paper discusses the effect, evolution, and dynamics of media on my life and relationships. In the modern world, media plays a more significant role than never before owing to the numerous events and happenings that take place instantaneously. Certainly, the way media has revolutionized especially in the past decade has changed the way people across the globe operate. This is especially so due to the emergence of the social networking sites that supplement the mainstream media in the dissemination of information, the veracity of much of its content is questionable. In the ancient days, the only means of relaying information of wide geographical distances was using mails and messengers who could take days without returning. As days and years went by, people became more innovative and the media went through a defining moment after the invention of the printing press. This enabled the dissemination of content through the transportation of several copies of information and ideas across expansive geographical distances. However, the invention of radio and the television set changed the dimension of broadcast media especially by offering more coverage, information, and entertainment in various aspects. At this point, I have to admit the fact that media plays a significant role in my life and relationships by having a more or less positive impact on my life. Since I am a student, I rely heavily on the media to provide me with all sorts of information and ideas that I need in my career and personal life. The mainstream media that have a lot of impact on many people including the students are the television, radio, print media, and broadcast media. With the print media, I normally comb through the pages of various newspapers and magazines for various information. For instance, I can read the entertainment news while at the same time be updated on the latest news across the globe. Additionally, newspapers are a very good source of education especially for college students who have to keep abreast of world both regional and world affairs. When it comes to radio, I love listening to a wide variety of both local and international channels that offer insightful programs besides entertaining me with the genres of music that I love. Frankly speaking, an hour of listening to radio makes my day and in cannot imagine my life without listening to the radio. Perhaps the most robust of all the broadcast media outlets is the television that provides both the visual and audio effects to the information being relayed. Technology has indisputably revolutionized the methods and techniques of disseminating information especially by the mainstream media. A classic example of this technology is the digital broadcast that has made it possible to keep updated with the latest news via the internet. With the advent of the internet technology, the social media also sprung up making the world a smaller village through globalization. While their pioneers claim that the intention of the social media was to cover a relatively small geographical area in connecting people, the interest in the same grew to the level that they had to go global. Some of the major social networking sites include Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube. Through these social networking sites, I am able to chat with friends and family thus keeping my personal relationship with them healthy and vibrant. Additionally, the social media enables interactive sharing of crucial information including the participation of both the public and the corporate world. I specifically like the social media because it allows everyone to share their information thus the scope of entertainment, informational, and educational content is always wide. My love for the media extends specifically to the media personalities that host various programs and shows that range from entertainment, educational, to informational. When it comes to the television broadcast, I like listening a lot to CNN, BBC, and Aljazeera all of which are international media houses. Due to my astounding love for some of the personalities that work for these media houses, I have many timed been saddened by the selling out of such TV anchors and presenters. The same case applies to writers and editors who work for such media houses especially the digital media and newspapers such as the New York Times. Perhaps this happened because of having known or gotten used to a particular individual for a long time thereby creating a strong bond through the media platform on which they air their view, shows, or programs. Nevertheless, I have developed the capacity to let go and accept change, as change is the wheel that drives the society forward. In this case, I quickly adapt to the new environment and develop a positive attitude to the new anchors and news writers. Undeniably, the media is a powerful entity in our daily lives, and even more invasive for college students, a generation growing up with more forms of media choices than any other generation before them. While the society concentrated on the mainstream media, the social media came as a technological surprise to many people, especially those who were resilient. Without media, the society will live in a world full of ignorance and this can lead to more disasters in the sense that very few people will know what is happening around the world and therefore few many will perish while few will get opportunities within the society. As for college students, media is indeed as crucial as their studies are to them. This is particularly so because every learner has to ingest all sorts of information irrespective of the field of such information. This gives me the motivation to continue embracing the media platform as a learning opportunity. In summary, the media, both social and mainstream media, have taken the center stage in everyone’s’ life particularly to the students. Besides, the global population has developed a kind of obsession for such media outlets as the television due to its intensive and extensive dissemination of ideas and information through visual and audio perspectives. The evolution of media has particularly made it possible for many media houses to venture into the practice thus providing clients with a wide variety of information. Personally, I have been able to gain massive information over the years through the digital media broadcasting. This has significantly boosted my general and academic knowledge and I am very grateful. All the same, the media should continue with their honorable work of disseminating information with utmost integrity and objectivity that is devoid of any element of bias. Read More
