 Ivy League Schools vs Second Tier Schools Introduction Schools contribute in providing education and grooming the students. In the present times, different types of schools have developed which contribute in the overall growth of the students. Schools of various nations incorporate modern technologies and processes for developing various skills and qualities of the students. Schools are emphasizing more on their academic courses, policies etc for educating the education level of the students in effective ways. In U.S. mainly two types of schools have become highly popular. One is Ivy League Schools and another is Second Tier Schools. These two types of schools have lots of dissimilarity among them. In this country, students select the type of school based on their education needs and career objectives. This research paper will focus on the major differences of Ivy League Schools and Second Tier Schools. The views and opinions of different authors about these schools will be discussed in this paper. The different of these academic institutions will be analyzed in details by focusing on certain factors. Thesis statement The thesis statement of this research paper is “differences between Ivy League Schools and Second Tier Schools”. Research aim and objectives The aim of this research paper is to understand the major grounds or factors on which Ivy League Schools and Second Tier Schools differ from each other. The objectives of the research paper are as follow: To know and understand Ivy League Schools. Analyzing the important factors of Ivy League Schools. Understanding Second Tier Schools. Highlighting the academic structure and policies of Second Tier Schools. Focusing on the differences of Ivy League Schools and Second Tier Schools. Literature review According to the authors Fry, Ketteridge, and Marshall (2008), education plays an important role in shaping up the career of the students. By getting proper education, the skills and qualities of the students get enhanced which encourage them in grabbing various opportunities. These authors highlighted that education process and policies are different in various academic institutions. Some schools focus on the overall growth of the students while other schools emphasize on knowledge enhancement processes. The authors stated that the students must select which type education they want to have before taking admission in school (Fry, Ketteridge and Marshall 54). The author Mullen (2009), highlighted for the expansion of higher education, the classes and courses get stratified. This process provides better understanding to the students regarding different subjects. Ivy League Schools have various facilities and processes by which students can get high quality of education. In U.S, the students who belong from wealthy families or high class society prefer to get education from Ivy League Schools. The expectations of this type of students and their families are very high from the schools. The academic environment and facilities provided by these schools facilitate them in satisfying students and their families. The students of low economic class also get admission in Ivy League Schools based on their merit. The Ivy League Schools are the most selective colleges of U.S. All most every year these schools win different types of academic awards from different organizations (Mullen 17). The authors Lee and Nguyen (2007), focused on the issue that all students are not privileged enough for getting educations from Ivy League Schools. Every students of U.S. are not highly meritorious nor do they have sufficient money for pursuing higher studies from first tier schools. The students who are unable to take admission in First tier schools get into Second tire schools. In U.S, the schools which scores lower ranks are considered as Second tier schools. The authors highlighted that this type of schools are mainly for mediocre students. These schools do not have any strong reputation. They mainly believe in educating students by following specific processes and activities (Lee and Nguyen 37). According to the view of the authors Swanson and Fisher (2011), Second Tier Schools are not highly popular in U.S. Students want to pursue higher students from Ivy League Schools for getting better career prospects. This type of schools is the first preference of the students. Second Tier Schools do not have modern facilities which will help them in attracting students. Ivy League Schools are famous in all around the world. The students, who come from other nations for studying in U.S, try hard to get into Ivy League Schools. They believe that this type of school will immensely contribute in their overall development. Second Tier Schools are developing at a slow rate and for this reason they are not been able to meet the expectations of the student from academic institution. The authors stated that proper education helps a person in fulfilling his dreams. Therefore the students want to receive education from the best academic institutions for achieving their goals in competitive market (Swanson and Dann 76). Research methodology Research methodology is considered as a vital part of the research paper. Based on appropriate research methodology, the researchers are able to gather relevant data or information. Quality of the research paper depends highly on the methodology. Informative report is developed by the researchers by incorporating appropriate research methods. There are mainly two types of research methods. One is quantitative and another one is qualitative. In quantitative research method, the researchers analyze data by using various statistical tools. They incorporate primary research methods for gather data directly from fields. With the help of different tools, data which is collected from survey, interview etc is analyzed properly and on the basis of that the researchers develop the report. In qualitative research method, researchers analyze the data by considering the views and opinions of different people or organizations. Information about the research topic is collected from various secondary sources like journals, books, websites etc for developing accurate research report. In this report, the researchers followed qualitative research methodology for understanding the differences between Ivy League Schools and Second Tier Schools. Secondary research methods were incorporated by the researchers for collecting information. Analysis and findings In U.S, Ivy League Schools and Second Tier Schools are two types of academic institutions. These types of schools have different characteristics and features. Ivy League Schools consist of the most famous schools of U.S. These schools are popular all over the world. The Ivy League Schools focus not only on high quality of education but also on overall growth and development of the students. The policies and standards of the schools are designed in such a way that satisfies the requirements of the students (Ron 82). Ivy League Schools incorporated various advanced processes and functions for enhancing their education processes. The course fees of these schools are very high. Many people believe that the type of education which these schools provide cannot be evaluated by money. Ivy League Schools can change the entire life and career of the students. These schools strongly emphasize on the grooming the students and making them capable enough in winning the competition (Berts, Cappello and Dell'amore 58). The reputation of the Ivy League Schools is much stronger than other schools. This type of schools provides various benefits to the students. It is often observed that students of Ivy League Schools have high employment rates and they are smarter than the students of other colleges. (Wai and Goudreau) In this figure it is highlighted that the brainpower of Ivy League Schools students are high. The ranks of different Ivy League Schools are mentioned for understanding the quality of students present in these schools. Famous companies prefer to recruit students from this type of schools for getting better employees. Ivy League Schools are located in various popular locations of U.S. which facilitate the students of different parts of the world to gain education from those schools (Fuchs, Fuchs and Stecker 306). These schools emphasize highly on extracurricular activities for enhancing the participation level of the students. On the other hand, the Second Tier Schools of U.S are not much popular. They mainly follow traditional ways for educating students and for this reason students from different countries of the world are not aware of Second Tier Schools. This type of schools follows general policies and standards of education. Quality of education varies in Second Tier Schools. These schools mainly focus on the providing knowledge to the students. Second Tier Schools do not emphasize much on all rounded developments of their students. The course fees of Second Tier Schools are not very high (Fuchs and Fuchs 42). This type of school believes in providing education to the students at a low cost so that every student can get the scope of learning. Less variety of courses is present in Second Tier Schools and as a result of this the schools are not able to attract large number of students. Very few students are placed in good companies after the completion of different courses from this type of college. Mainly small companies recruit students from Second Tier Schools. It is observed that employment rate is low in this type of schools. The brain power and smartness of the students of Second Tier Schools are not very strong and for this reason they do not get placement in big companies after the completion of their courses. The number of extracurricular activities present in Second Tier Schools is low when compared with Ivy League Schools. Therefore overall development of students in Second Tier Schools is stumpy (Fuchs and Fuchs 17). Admission process of the students in this type of schools is quite simple and easier than Ivy League Schools. Admissions of the students are based on merit in Second Tier Schools whereas Ivy League Schools focus take admission tests and also focus on the merit. Conclusion The basic differences of Ivy League Schools and Second Tier Schools are discussed in this research paper in details. The entire research was conducted on the basis of aim and objectives of the paper.
