Extract of sample "Sam Waltons Emotional Intelligence"

The feeling of empathy in Sam developed at a relatively early stage, thereby urging him to care for his family (Goleman 119). It was only an ability to empathize with others that motivated Sam to work diligently to rescue himself and his loved ones from a life of poverty and need.

Sam also exhibited a marked level of self-awareness. Considering the fact that he started to work as a child, it goes without saying that Sam was not only able to feel worried for his family, but was also able to identify that feeling and channelize it into the constructive and meaningful effort. Later on, Sam joined the military out of a sense of responsibility and concern for his family and his nation. No wonder Sam was constantly in touch with his emotional center and was rather certain about these feelings thereby able to pilot his life in a way that benefitted his family and him (Goleman 47).

Considering the fact that Sam led a hard life with compromised financial security most of the time, certainly, he had a capacity to manage his feelings in a way that warded off anxiety and cynicism and helped him act in a way that was very responsible and considerate of his and his family’s situation (Goleman 47). Sam must have possessed an ability to bounce back in the face of failures and disappointments. It goes without saying that it is not possible for an individual to proceed towards success in a persistent and confident manner unless one is truly motivated.

The available information pertaining to Sam Walton does evince the fact that irrespective of being raised under hard circumstances, he continued to go for options that facilitated his and his family’s progress and well being; this shows that Sam had the capacity to marshal one’s feelings to facilitate his goals, thereby engendering immense self-confidence and self-motivation (Goleman 47). Besides, going by the fact that Sam managed to thrive in the face of adversity, it would have been practically not possible for him to do so unless he possessed mellowed interpersonal skills.

Sam is indeed a person with immense self-control, motivation, and persistence, the essential attributes of emotional intelligence. Read More
