NURSING AND LEADERSHIP Leadership Detailing Reflection and Critical Analysis on Leadership As once d by Drucker (2008, p86), “management is doing things right and leadership is doing the right things. Great leaders possess dazzling social intelligence, a zest for change and above all vision that allows them to set their eyes on the things that truly merit attention. Not a bad skill set for us either”. Leadership is how you influence one by your characters, it is an act, decision, and a step taken to encourage and inspire others to move with you.

Furthermore, the most compelling and efficient leaders do not rely on their titles or positional power to lead , rather their ability to use their own personal power connected with their use of strategic impact are what makes them effective. This essay evaluates leadership detailing reflection and critical analysis based on the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) module. APEL involves the process that enables one to acquire official perception and sensibility for the skills and knowledge they already have that have not been previously investigated and evaluated.

In relation to health sciences including nursing, APEL creates an opportunity to be creative and innovative in a way that previous skills and experiences can be extracted from. Like any other profession, nursing must have precise administrative and regulative principles that govern registered nurses and know what is expected of them .These principles are explained in the code: Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2008) which is a fundamental tool in protecting the prosperity and wellbeing of the general public.

The code provides a foundation upon which other NMC standards, guidance, and advice are based. It provides a benchmark against which individual nurses and midwives fitness to practice is judged if it is called into question; this is the main feature normally associated with the code (Goldsmith 2011, p.37). Basically, it is usually critical to recall the doctrine of team working in nursing, which are set in the code. Several nurses now manage teams from the start of their career and therefore potential and effective leaders should be seen in them (NMC, 2010a).

In leadership and management roles, it is discerning that you are decisively clear about your accountability and liability in relation to accrediting care safely and effectively, and controlling risks. Nursing requires powerful, persistent and intelligent leaders, who are visible, motivate others and back up professional nursing practices .Leadership plays a critical role in the nursing profession. Fundamental attributes of a nurse leader include a collaborator, a mentor, a risk taker, and a role model, a good communicator, idealistic and noble.

(Levin, Nygren 1996 p97.) Moreover, leadership is a shared obligation. Nurses in all parts of practice and all sectors of practice must maximize their leadership accomplishments. With the united energy of shared leadership, nurses form strong networks and important relationships which results into successful nursing practice. In addition, APEL has been the pioneer that has supported and developed potential leadership skills without completing a known qualification. The most common module used is U44124 which facilitates workplace learning in a variety of different studying modes.

In conclusion, nurses have the responsibility to their clients to demand practice environments that have the organizational human support and ethical nursing care. Also, leadership can be provided by one or more individuals who are either formally appointed to the duty or emerge from within the team.
