? A Cog Laboratory Report: Cognitive Psychology Signal amplification of Identifying a Target pattern amongst “frequency” reduces signal amplification Introduction The particular task in this area of cognitive psychology is the effects of the frequency in the signal amplification. This experiment concerns with the quality of signal movement between two stations say station A and station B. By studying the identification of the frequency we would be able to know the effects that frequency has on the signal amplification. By studying the classifications of different responses obtain from different respondents, we can gain the understanding behind this effect of frequency on the signal amplification. The target of this report is to impacts skills on the students concerning the effects that frequency installs in the signal amplification. The students would correctly be able to identify from the different frequency boxes how the boxes directly influence the signal amplification. Previous studies of signal amplification carried out by Brennan and Leape (1965) tried to explain the impacts that frequency has on signal amplification. Since the boxes present in this experiment have been assigned different frequencies (random frequency boxes) from which the students have to identify the amplification of the signal between the two stations that is station A and station B. Other recent studies on signal amplification done by Bates and Boyle (1998) tend to explain the difficulty that the signal amplification experiences having been subjected to different frequency boxes. This experiment suggested that for the amplification of the signal, the signal frequency plays a major role. The signals from the different frequency boxes at times undergo smooth amplification while others experience some technical issues during the amplification. Some of the technical issues due to the frequency boxes were beyond the scope of this experiment and therefore the students could not obtain correct observations. With the possibility of the technical issues described above in this subject pertaining to the task on hand, it can be deduced that the presence of the obstacles might lower the amplification of the signals. The amplifications of the signals on the other hand interfere with the amplitude of the signals as viewed on the screen of the Cathode Ray Oscilloscope. The higher the amplification, the higher the amplitude. Method As stated earlier, this experiment put into consideration the identification process for the presence and absence of the certain obstacles in the line of the amplification. The subjects were visible on the cathode oscilloscope screen. The obstacles were placed on the different frequency boxes path and the amplification devices. Almost half of the amplification trials had different frequencies at a time. The different boxes were arranged in a given pattern in line with the amplification devices. The different amplification devices were placed in line with the different frequency boxes. All the possible responses of the amplification devices were categorized into four different groups. If an amplification device detected the presence of the frequency box then it was indicated on the screen. The output on the screen was labeled as positive. On contrary, the failure by the Cathode ray oscilloscope to detect the amplification on the screen then it was labeled as negative. In a situation whereby the complete amplification was not shown on the screen and indeed they were not projected were labeled as right rejections. A failure by the cathode ray oscilloscope to detect the amplification process and indeed it was present was identified as faulty. Figure one below shows the visual representation of the amplification response. After the completion of the trial test, the different frequency boxes were presented with a report which was their results from the test. The values obtained from these experimental data were transferred for use in the next section of the experiment. Results This given experiment was carried out by students on the cathode ray oscilloscope and therefore all values within the different categories stated above were obtained with a lot of ease. The cathode ray oscilloscope was in a capacity to calculate the various amplification curves for the different frequency box. The sensitivity curve for each amplification was recorded as (s) and the faulty values were recorded as (f).The sensitivity values for the amplification curves were completely zero. This meant that the cathode ray oscilloscope could not easily differentiate between the trials with versions from the trials without versions. The amplitude of the amplification curve had the highest value of 3.4.This meant that the cathode ray oscilloscope was in a position to distinguish between the trials with a target position from the trial without target position. The faulty response was based on the opinion of the students .From the data obtained, the positive value for the faulty value indicated that the cathode ray oscilloscope could not read the amplification. On the other hand, a negative value for the faulty value indicated that the cathode rat oscilloscope could read the value but could not give its value on the screen. The figures1and 2 below show the faulty amplification values. At a given time, an average value of s and f gathered from close to 10 students indicate an overall low amplification to correctly placed frequency box in the rows with the amplification devices. The value of s was equivalent to 0.365 which can be said to be within 9th percentile. Due to the low amplification value, we can deduce that the weight of the experiment as earlier stated at the beginning of the experiment actually interference with the subject’s ability to correctly identifies the amplification of the different signals from the frequency boxes. The faulty response was slightly liberal as far as the experiment was concerned (Author). Subject responses Yes No Amplification Of the signal Amplitude Figure 1-signal obstruction Cathode ray oscilloscope amplification output. Frequency Of the signal Amplitude Subject responses Yes No Amplification of the Signal amplitude Figure 2-subjects biasness Discussion It is evident that the projected result of the author is completely different from the average data of the subject. The larger variations from the experimental data and the projected data therefore tends to support the idea that increasing the frequency increases the amplification of the signal and decreasing the frequency lowers the amplification of the signal. To fully understand this phenomenon of amplification of the signals, researchers should be able to increase the frequency of the signal and then determines the signal amplitude. The research should ensure that they use different frequency boxes so as to obtain the correct amplification curves. As from the experiment it can be deduced that frequency is directly proportional to the amplification of the signal. Though some experiments have contradicted this theory for a long time, this experiment conducted proved wrong those wrong allegations. Conclusions Based on the experiment that we did, we can conclude that the variations on the frequency affects the amplification. Since amplification deals with the magnification of the signals themselves, any slight change on the frequency of the individual signal would greatly affect the amplification. This was evident in the output on the screen of the cathode ray oscilloscope which showed higher amplitude when the signal frequency was increased. The creation of the obstacles on the path of the frequency boxes and the amplification devices actually affected the output. The presence of these obstacles literally interfered with the movement of the signals thereby reducing their amplification output. The presences of the obstacles therefore cause some obstruction and blockages of the signals forcing the signals to pass on top of them. The amplification and the frequency therefore have a direct relationship. They are directly proportional that is an increase in the frequency increases the amplification and a decrease in the frequency decreases the amplification. This experiment has therefore proved that the subject clause of the topic is wrong since the topic tried to suggest that the relationship which existed between the signal and the amplification was an inverse relationship. That has not been the case with the experiment. The experiment showed that the two items that is the signals and the frequency are directly related. References Brenna, R.W., & Leape, S.B. (1965).
