DB Technology Management Management of technology is a fundamental process that separate success fromfailure in all business environments. In many organizations, today, employers hire employees based on certain requirements that allow them to meet the demands of their jobs (Rainer & Cegielski, 2009). Despite this approach of hiring employees, information systems still play a critical role in providing support, facilitating a decision-making process, and carrying out various business operations.

Based on research, this paper outlines the functions of three employees each from Starbucks, Apple Corporation and Wal-Mart giving the descriptions of their tasks. Apple Corporation has various positions for sales representatives. As a firm that produces a variety of electronic equipment such as laptops, phones and music players, Apple requires dedicated sale persons to market these products. In any Apple store, Apple hires sales persons to persuade customers to buy products sold in stores. Apple also tasks the representatives with the responsibility of selling some of the firm’s services to customers.

Subscription to Apple’s iTunes store is an example of a service that Apple offers to its customers. In a typical working day, a sale representative from Apple explains to customers the features of products and services that Apple sells, not to mentioning answering questions from customers. The sales persons also inform users of how to store and use various products. Wal-Mart has the largest chain of retail stores across the United States. With stores stretching across various states, Wal-Mart employs assistant managers to help store managers in running its stores.

Wal-Mart expects assistant managers to have updated information on sales. The assistant manager is also responsible for ensuring that employees attend breaks, lunch and supper within a specified time. Most important, work of assistant managers is to ensure that their department has enough stocks, and that they place orders in time. Tracking sales daily is part of an assistant manager’s expectation. Starbucks has established itself as one of the best makers of coffee. To succeed in their coffee business, Starbucks has store managers in each of their coffee store.

Store managers have many responsibilities. Starbucks expects them to schedule any training event, place orders, and receive them, as well as prepare financial information. These roles are helpful in running Starbucks stores effectively. The descriptions of the three positions outline the need for information in order for executing various roles. Apple, Starbucks, Wal-Mart can automate some of the responsibilities of these employees. First, apple can create an interactive e-commerce module that can provide users with all information about the products on sale.

In addition, it can develop a website that allows users to have as much information as possible about its products and services. An information system that provides brand new products and their description can help in marketing new products. On the other hand, Starbucks can create a system that tracks new employees and schedules training for them. This information system should profile employees, categorizing them according to the training they required. Moreover, Starbuck can use an information system that checks for order and request for more when need to arise.

Wal-Mart can revolutionize the function of its assistant manager by developing an information system that checks for sales and calculates their change.
