Number “A Situational Analysis of the Goals, Objective and Expansion Plan of Hathaway Jones Retail Store.’’ Goal of the Organization under this Situation Goals of this organization and by extend, any corporation should reflect what the company wants to achieve, or an end to something. For this business process, it will be an aim it will establish in order to start the business planning process. The major concern which is also the goal for this chain store, is to grow revenue from the sale of its luxury designer product in China.

This goal can be achieved by opening outlets in China market which according to statistics has been growing by over 70% annually. Objectives The objectives in this case should be more specific, time-based and measurable (Rampersad.). In this case an objective maybe to open three store outlets in major China’s cities within the following year. Another possible objective would “to use the best team to lead the opening of three store outlets in China.” Main Issue The company wants to achieve an increase in market share to bag in more revenue from taking advantage of China’s increasing appetite for luxury clothes to open more shops there.

The company wants to infiltrate the China market and requires s someone with the right credential to spearhead the expansion process. Statement of the Issue The issue is that the best candidate to oversee the expansion plan has a controversial background as far as relationship with China is concerned. She is the best readily available talent to implement the project in China but that is only going to be possible if no one will dig up her background to find that she had already protested against the same government she is now preparing to work in.

if this is realized, then the image of the company may be destroyed leading to poor performance of the products in the first place. The dilemma is whether to hire her despite her past sour relationship with china thereby risking the success of the plan or forget her and hire a lesser qualified person with proper relationship with the host government. This is a balance that is not certain what it will yield. Solutions The solutions alternative may be available but not all of them will yield the same result.

First alternative is to hire the next available candidate and forget her to preserve the image of the company in China. This will play a major public relations but may not give the desired results that is assured by hiring someone with credentials like Mimi. Secondly, Fred may hire her but for publicity purposes, assign her roles that will not expose her so much to public scrutiny but nevertheless utilize her knowledge and experience in decision making. This can be achieved by assigning someone the role of public relations while behind the scene making her the strategist.

The company also has a choice of still using her services in a capacity as an outsourced consultant. This will not put the company directly in disagreement with the china government. Besides, she has experience in managerial consultancy services in her records. Recommendations The best choice for according to me for this company would be choice three. The retail chain should not let this talent go untapped and fall in the hand of the competition while on the other should make sure not to jeopardize her relationship with the target market.

The latter will destroy the image of such a retail business. Internet propaganda alone is enough to bring down an established business. The only viable balance to strike is to use her services indirectly as a management consultant directly contracted to foresee the plan. This will not directly put her in management position but will use her skills. This will also leave both parties satisfied. Mimi will be happy to have played a role like she wanted while the retail chain will have the best service while on a personal basis, Fred will feel to have not disappointed his friend’s request for a favor.

Action Steps The steps of turning this into reality is to begin with surveying the cities for the best location for the store considering the advice from the consultant here being Mimi. Then Fred will hire a ceremonious or a public relations manager for the store and post him/her to the store. This manger will be working in front of busy strategist consultant who will be making most of the decisions with regard to the operations of the store. As time goes, she will be brought slowly to the public as this will not bring more fuss among people compared to impromptu introduction of her as the manager.
