In business settings, changes are usually made whenever a problem is realized so as to counter the risks of the same hazard appearing again. The Toronto Transit Commission certainly made the move to prevent further fraud and theft that its employees can involve in provide no or fake services to their customers. The introduction of ‘whistleblower program’ aims at providing a quick confidential response platform to neutralize such. However, this program is expensive as it relies on other security consultant groups such as ‘ClearView Strategic Partners’ who charge as high as thirty three thousand dollars so as to conduct the investigations. The move was primarily triggered by five workers who had engaged in some fraud with the customers.
From the CEO’s perspective, the development is seen as morale booster to the workers but this is arguably not the case. As one would argue, there are no lazy employees and their whole operations and performances are greatly regulated by the management in place; leadership and professional management strategies deployed. It is true to say that bad management leads to low performance and vice versa. The management structures in the organization can create good or bad employees and therefore it is upon the management to vet well what they are using. The TTC could have allowed an easy loophole through which fraud and theft could be enabled. It lies with the managers to seal and block every possible hole through which customers can be exploited. The morale and esteem of the employees are enhanced by management activities such as reinforcement, appraisal, remuneration and incentive offering. It is not validly justifiable to conclude that there are lazy employees (Podmoroff, 2005, p. 99).
