Business Ethics and Social Responsibility In the article written by (Charleston, in Fastcompany.com business websites on business ethics and social responsibility, quite a lot can be made out of it. In summary, the article talked about the importance of a company offering corporate social responsibility to the communities around them. Charleston quotes a research conducted by Deloitte Company in regard to corporate social responsibility and its impact on the company and the community in the general (Charleston, 2014).

The research quoted by Charleston concluded that CSR was a positive motivator of employee’s morale and helped them to related better with other employees and the community around them. In addition, CSR was a good marketing strategy as it boosted a company’s reputation (Charleston, 2014). The article continued by providing an example of how CSR was used by the author’s company in boosting the morale of the employees and changing their ideas about work. Within a year, by achieving 100% membership of employees in CSR, quite a lot became done and it brought some change in the company’s culture.

The authors noted that employee and the community relationship improved greatly plus their sales in general (Charleston, 2014). Based on the article, the major concepts discussed were business ethics and corporate social responsibility. It is true that the practice of a business returning favour to the communities that help them grow is beneficial in the long run for the business (Charleston, 2014). Business that show a positive relation with the communities around them tends to progress more compared to those who have a poor relationship with communities which consume their products and services (Charleston, 2014).

Based on chapter1 to 3 of the book written by Ferrel, Geoffrey & Linda (2014), it is clear that the concepts presented in the article are exactly the same like that of the book. According to Ferrel, Geoffrey & Linda (2014), corporate social responsibility is a tool used by businesses to improve their reputations and indirectly improve on their image. It is less businesses that appreciate the value of corporate social responsibility because of resistance from workers. If such a negative perception about the concept is dropped off, then many companies will be ripping benefits of CSR just like the company in the article (Ferrel, Geoffrey & Linda, 2014).

The book continues to insist that a good atmosphere for working is important for any business to thrive and continues by saying that CSR improves greatly a company’s culture in general hence creating a positive attitude for work. Based on Charleston article, he stands on the opinion that corporate social responsibility is useful and helpful in improving a company’s image, improving their social ties, and boosting workers morale. From my opinion, I do agree with the writer since corporate social responsibility provides employees with an opportunity to meet the community in real life and get to understand them deeply.

Workers can be able to relate their business and the community and find a common ground. It is good practice to always return something back to the community when a business is benefiting from them. The article on corporate social responsibility written by Charleston will have a positive impact on the local and national business community to start participating in it. Based on the article, Charleston provides a detailed explanation of CSR based on real life events that occurred at his company and how it helped them.

When companies see such an article, they will be obliged to try it and create a good relationship with the community around their businesses plus to foster a good work culture in the business. A good example of how other companies can take advantage of CSR can be through building schools, boreholes, giving scholarships, in poverty stricken communities so as to alleviate their living standards. In conclusion, this article was of interest to me based on how real the author made the story to a point that someone wants to apply want he underwent to one’s business.

As the world is changing, numerous business practices have been adopted in order to help a business do well in the market. Part of the changes currently being embraced by many businesses is the need to incorporate corporate social responsibility to their business, something which is gaining popularity.
