Professional Development Student’s Name Subject Professor University/Institution Location Date Part 1: My Adelaide Friends network Name of Contact Who introduced you to the contact? To whom did you introduce the contact? YiHao Wang Tom Briggs Ian Jones Emilia Thompson Tom Briggs Betty Ayres Yang-Chieh Lin YiHao Wnag Millicent Mackie Siena Stuckey Tom Briggs Johannes Pitt Tom Briggs me David Rosas Description– connections-network The above table shows that Tom Briggs is the superconnector. After connecting with Tom, he then introduced his friends and course mates; Emilia and Siena to me. Afterwards he introduced Wang and Wang introduced us to Lin. These are five of my closest friends in campus as we spend much time with them. Over the last three years I have met quite a number of friends that have ended up becoming part of my larger network at campus. The closest persons in the college are three of my course mates; Emilia, Siena and Tom. As suggested in Uzzi & Dunlap (2005), this network is build by self-similarity principle. My closest friends resemble me in terms of day-to-day activities, training, worldview and experience. In turn, we share concepts that allow us to work efficiently and support each other. How to build your network I happen to spend most hours of the day with them, I give them a call over the weekend and I perhaps know the time they sneak to their bed. Simply, we are just close to one another that any time we meet; someone will always tell where the other person might be or is. I also got two Chinese friends though they are not my course mates. We keep close and visit each other often, meet around the college and have sometimes together weekly or fortnightly. My course mates are unique part of me, we have similar social aspirations, and we talk, share and most importantly work together. Though it just started as purely as course group members, we started going to places together as group members suggested or by coincidence after which we developed close social ties. I met, Tom at the department during registration and as we went through the units, we got connection. By then, we were new and scarcely had friends. We started to go to class together after which Tom introduced me to two of his ladies friends and we extended our group. As we worked together, it seemed as a perfect match with gender balance. Tom met Wang, a Chinese friend one day he had visited acupuncture facility after when he realized that they are part time staffs in the care unit who study at our college. They really wanted to make more friends and since they were not fluent in English, we started helping them particularly on writing well, recommend places for improvement and even visit their workplace often. I am an entrepreneur and each of my friends has contributed a lot to my development and success. I noted that my Chinese friends were obsessed with beaded necklaces and bracelets. I liked them and they gave me one. After my friends show me with it, they demanded such and I did not want to bother my friends for more. I requested for an idea on where we could get some but it was unfortunate since the model and styles were purely Chinese. I talked it out with my friends and our Chinese friends showed us how to join the beads which I sell over the college with the help of my friends. According to Uzzi & Dunlap (2005) shared activities principle help break barriers created by either proximity or self-similarity principles. Our cohesion with Lin and Wang has become stronger due to common activity, making and selling beaded products. My network so far has been very useful in my life and so I have been to them. There are two most important aspects I can confirm from the network including; access to skill sets and power (Uzzi & Dunlap 2005, p.54). I and my course mates have offered our Chinese support in their earlier days in the college. In turn, they helped us develop an idea by seeing the demand for beaded products and connect with customer all over where the friends are connected. Most importantly, learning together has empowered each and every one of us and helped us to relate across cultures. We had suggested of visiting our friends in China sometimes and they have also talked of opening businesses in the country which we can help manage. Ultimately, we might all end up in the same field after school and that will facilitate our relationship growth. Part 2: Yan Li Adelaide Area, Australia E-mail: Shirley.525@hotmail.com D.O.B: 25/05/1991 Abilities: Interests in research, critical thinking, analytic and communication skills, increased knowledge and self-motivated in academic and business purposes, improved interaction, highly organized, open-mindedness , high level of honesty. Summary My LinkedIn offers information on personal details, interests, and education, experience and contact details. I have made use it as a collaborative platform with two of my friends being from my past workplace. These friends can help me in noting job and professional development opportunities. However, I do not have many friends since I joined lately but I expect to connect further with other Accountants students for the purposes of sharing information across wide-range of areas like studies, during placements, social networking and at workplaces. As Janasz, Dowd & Schneider (2006) argues, motivate-related factors can drive development and experiences. Motives influence connection and future opportunities. As Uzzi & Dunlapp (2005) points out, interaction generates opportunities for people to demonstrate trustworthiness with each other. Stable characters develop in activities generating bonds of loyalty and promoting diverse individuals to enjoy with each other. For me, I have interacted with groups and attended to events to as can be seen in my repositories and documentation. I like sharing information and connecting with significant others via quick sharing places, rapid growing websites and use of image and paste bins as platforms where information gain popularity after a short time. I can view information shared by others, get engaged and share it when needed. I am a Bachelor of Commerce, (Major Accounting) undergraduate from Usnisa University enthusiastic to work in an organization that can help me utilize my academic knowledge. This course has impacted on how I utilize quality improvement and available processes and management tools towards personal and professional development, improving client services and outcomes and improving the work environment as I make and implement decisions. With adequate knowledge in the area of Accounting in addition to other outstanding proficiencies, I am certain that I have the desired qualities in Accounting. Skills & Endorsements My major supportive skills and competencies that I use and which are important in my current and future career include: Time management and strong organizational skills Motivation and dedication High-level customer service Team work and goal achievement skills Throughout learning, I have had opportunities and achievement which have promoted me to achieve Honors and Awards. I have received awards due to participation in leadership activities, community service and extracurricular. My professional interests promote me towards commitment for developing knowledge, skills and promote conditions necessary to facilitate communication and growth. I have contributed to corrective discussion and have collaborated in professional issues at different points. However, I am still advancing in professional development and particularly in research and training, leadership, planning and management through departmental activities I have worked in Max Therapist as a part time Accountant and I have been consistent in ensuring quality and integrity in the work delivery and development. I fit well into different companies’ culture and contribute to the ongoing success of the organization as I am flexible and dynamic. I work well with supervisor and teams to deliver as per requirements and expectations of my position. I am interested to develop my career further by advancing with professional course in Accounting during my Master’s and Doctorate course. I want to advance in research and collaborate with others in specific advance accountancy. I got many options to consider and plan to have accomplished my academic goal by the next five years. Through LinkedIn, I can partner with other post-graduate students to impact my research and development. Larger network will enable me to encounter practical and profitable skills that will impact on my skills and input in workplaces. I am good in communication and no wonder I need to learn more. In turn, I will participate in educating, support and training others in my area of expertise. References Uzzi, B., & Dunlap, S. (2005).
