The management can make some important changes to increase the efficiency by putting in practice best practices. First, they should increase the areas of production of the wooden jigsaws. This would eliminate the current stock of approximately € 20000 being held. In addition, this would increase the efficiency of the supply chain. Also, the company should look for new suppliers who have lesser lead time. The delivery of the supplies in time is very crucial to supply chain (Valverde, and Talla 2012).
Moreover, they should employ an automated hammer that hammers the pins into the jigsaws. Furthermore, the fret sawing area should be moved to be near the drill and pin area. This would reduce the time taken in transporting the pinned sheets from the drill and pin area to the fret sawing area.
The highly experienced operators should be retained, this would ensure that there are no delays in the supply chain. This is because the training of a new operator takes about two years to be fully proficient. In addition, the company should ensure only skilled labor is employed in the cutting section. The cost of employing unskilled labor is very high. It may result to the blade breaking which may cause delays in the supply chain.
Ultimately, management should install blade guards to take care of the operators. In addition, the cutting should be done in a well-ventilated area to ensure that the health of the operators is not at risk. Injuries and ill-operators can cause the supply chain to be inefficient. Also, the cutting of the jigsaws should be automated in order to produce similar batches. If implemented this would render the guillotine section useless and would reduce the supply chain, making it faster.
