Managing Organization Diversity-Web Sites Introduction Diversity management is the recognition andsupport of different lifestyles, individual characteristics, and personal differences within a defined group. Diversity management entails emancipating the group on the importance of diversity and multiculturalism. Diversity includes respect for, and acceptance of various societal, racial, geographic, religious, political, and economic backgrounds. Hilton Hotel The Hilton Worldwide website has a specific diversity section that can be accessed on the homepage by going to the dropdown list on the careers section.

The link is called “diversity and inclusion” and can be accessed from http://jobs.hiltonworldwide.com/en/why-choose-us/workplace-diversity/?cntry=united-states/. The company serves over 91 countries through ownership, franchising, and management of over 4000 hotels. Due to the company’s diverse clientele, the company employs over 314,000 team members of diverse cultures, talent, communities, and races. Christopher J. Nassetta, the company President and CEO, explains that diversity is not only Hilton’s future, but also fundamental to the legacy and success of Hilton Worldwide (“Workplace Diversity” par.1-2). Hilton’s diversity extends beyond the workforce and customers; the company also includes diversity in its supply chain and ownership.

In 2004, the company was the first hotel to educate and incorporate minority and female entrepreneurs into owning the company’s properties (“Diversity and Inclusion” par. 8). Marriott Hotel The Marriott website has a specific section that talks about diversity in the company but cannot be accessed directly from the homepage. The diversity section is accessible by clicking on the “About Marriott” section and then choosing from the drop down list on the diversity section. The link to the “Diversity & Inclusion” section is http://www.marriott.com/diversity/diversity-and-inclusion.mi/. “Diversity & Inclusion” (par. 1) shows Marriott has been a supporter of diversity and inclusion since 1927.

The organizational culture is all about embracing differences globally to enhance the hotels success as a hospitality company. Marriott’s corporate diversity goes beyond its recruitment and retention of people of diverse cultures. The company engages in efforts to increase ownership, guest and supplier diversity (“Corporate Diversity” par. 1). Marriott engages in various initiatives to promote its campaign for diverse groups to create inclusive guest experiences. Recent initiatives include the “For You, We’re Marriott” campaign that focuses on Hispanic, LGBT and African American business travelers.

Another example is the “Be You, With Us” campaign launched in the celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender travelers, friends and families (“Corporate Diversity” par. 2). The company also sponsors the world’s most popular LGBT sport and cultural event, which is presented by the Cleveland Foundation. Marriott’s diversity and inclusion campaign enables the managers to build awareness in the organization, which has led to the organization’s support for war veterans and people with disabilities.

Marriott’s Women Leadership Development Initiative has increased the number of women in leadership positions to 53 percent. As at 2014, more than 600 Marriott hotels are owned by women and minority groups (“Corporate Diversity” par. 3-8). Comparison Both hospitality companies share the desire to increase diversity and inclusion in the company policy and organizational culture. The companies value individual differences in their workforce through nurturing diverse talents, cultures, and marketplace diversity.

Both organizations invest in supplier, guest, ownership and franchisee diversity programs. The efforts to improve diversity are crucial to the companies’ success in the industry. Both companies value the input of women and minority groups in leadership positions and the ownership of properties owned by the companies. Marriott hotel and Hilton Worldwide have bagged various awards and recognition because of their efforts towards diversity. Both websites provide the user with a variety of language options depending on nationality.

Differences Unlike Hilton Worldwide, the Marriott outlines initiatives such as the “For You, We’re Marriott” campaign that focuses on Hispanic, LGBT and African American business travelers. Another initiative outlined in the Marriot Website and omitted in the Hilton Website is the “Be You, With Us” campaign. The campaign was launched in the celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender travelers, friends and families. Unlike the Marriot website, the Hilton Worldwide website provides a statement by the CEO that outlines the organizations efforts towards diversity management and the importance of diversity in the legacy of the company.
