The paper "Twitter Should Start Charging Individual Users" is a perfect example of a business case study. Twitter has over 230 million monthly users and over 100 million daily users, which spans almost every nation across the globe. The users of the platform include organization, individuals such as government officials, world leaders, athletes, celebrities, sports teams, brands and media outlets. The users of Twitter normally create almost 500 million tweets on a daily basis (Kabani 15). Moreover, Twitter is a public platform that allows the users to create tweets and users have an opportunity of following others.
Twitter has no restrictions on the person to follow that allows the users to look for content they refer to most (Musil 1). The platform of Twitter allows the users to easily browse through the available tweets and explore the content through the photos, media among other applications, which might be attacked to the tweets. because of this, when events take place in the world, such as television shows, sporting events, natural disasters and even political revolutions, the digital coverage will always happen on twitter as they occur. Because Twitter limits the number of characters to 140 only, it has become easy for users to create, discover and send content which is consistent across the platform of twitter and is optimized or the mobile phones or devices (Salapa 1).
Therefore, Twitter has proved to be driving increased information exchange velocity making Twitter love- an unavoidable daily companion for human beings. However, the shares of twitter have been reducing ad its investors are worried claiming that they have lost focus. The company trades below its 26-dollar IPO meaning that it is in a dangerous situation when it comes to accounting terms (Salapa 1).
Twitter is planning to adopt a different model, which has brought heated debate including the discussion over whether Twitter Company is losing it by trying to strictly control content flowing through it that it can monetize such through advertising (Kabani 15). The company is creating a service version that will be funded by the users. Advantages of charging Individual Twitter Users Twitter allows its users to deliver a single idea, through or information piece in a single tweet and about 75 percent of its users usually access via mobile.
Such makes it a fast-medium where both timing and relevance are fundamental (Musil 1). The users at times share random and annoying thoughts incusing those who tweet intelligently. The problem is that many users’ timelines are clustered with unnecessary tweets, which compromises the goal of Twitter to be a serious medium for the exchange of significant ideas (Salapa 1). As such, the company should create an incentive to tweet more meaningfully and thoughtfully such as a charge per tweet.
Such will encourage users to reduce unnecessary and harmful information and only start tweeting what they will be willing to pay for (Kabani 15). Moreover, the attempt is going to generate more revenue from the charges and advertising revenues from the relevant tweets that will be getting higher engagement by the users and enable the corporation to increases its rates of advertising. The only way out for twitter to become a highly profitable venture is by it becoming a public good and medium of connection funded by its users (Salapa 1).
The current market for twitter is at around 12 billion dollars. Say for example that 50 percent, if twitters users start paying a yearly membership of 20 dollars. Also, suppose 121 million dollars that re related to the traffic acquisition scots of the company that represents the advertising of twitter to act advertising. After the adjustments, twitter will earn something close to 592 minion dollars in product.
