In this scenario we witness the case of a CEO who wants to create photocopiers which handle papers of different thickness. For the company to handle papers and photocopiers, it is important that they produce quality photocopiers. In the determination of the appropriate paper size that the company’s photocopiers can handle it is vital for calculation to be undertaken.
The calculation entails taking the different paper sizes and finding the mean of the different paper sizes. We have to find the mean paper size that the photocopier can allow without jamming (Boslaugh, 2008). Calculating the mean of the paper we have to get the measurements of all paper sizes and find the mean. Mean= Total paper thickness, = 0.09864, therefore the mean = 0.00411. In the determination of the 99.5% confidence we make use of the mean and standard deviation and the sample size to calculate the confidence level. The confidence levels are very crucial in the determination of reliability of an estimate.
For instance, if other repeated examinations or calculations were to be conducted on the right paper size for the photocopier the mean results would lie between 0.003994 and 0.004226. Confidence levels are used in determining the accuracy of the results conducted on a specific statistical sample. Moreover, using the 95% confidence levels assures the highest accuracy levels for the sampled statistical data (Boslaugh, 2008). Using the above results, the CEO of the photocopier company can be assured that using the above results the company can make very reliable photocopiers.
The photocopier company should go ahead and design a copier machine that allows papers within the confidence intervals obtained from the results (Armitage, 2008). Using the above results, the CEO can be confident to state that he is 95% sure that the right size of paper to be used in manufacturing should be from the obtained results. Using the 95% confidence level intervals it is easy for the company to remove doubts on the paper sizes that can be handled by their photocopiers.
