The paper "Developing Concept For A Festival Or Event " is a perfect example of a Management Assignment. Organizations have different responsibilities and are supposed to fulfill certain requirements. These organizations achieve through formulating and implementing objectives and goals. The objectives and goals are predetermined and are measurable. An event is an example of a program that can be operated by an organization or even can be completed individually but requires an understanding of management. The aim of this report is to analyze an event and how the event can be managed to ensure it becomes successful.
The event is called “ Sydney Paralympics” , and the report analyses the purpose, rationale, concept, location, time and unexpected situation preparedness. Purpose The aim of this report is to create a competition called the “ Sydney Paralympics” competition that will be open to individuals located in Sydney. These individuals range from university students to local community people with a disability: especially physical disability. Rationale The society plays an important role in dictating the role and responsibilities of the community (Allen et al. , 2012). The community is crucial in sustaining the society and the introduction of such an event would ensure the community appreciates talent from people with disabilities; especially physical disability. Scope This report is limited to carrying out a successful event and will be premised on purposes, concept, location, stakeholders and unexpected situation preparations. Background & Problem (Issue Statement) People with disabilities are common in Sydney and their potential has never been analyzed (Gold & Gold, 2010).
Many people and society view people with disabilities as incapable and thus carrying out such events will ensure their abilities and capacities can be known (Raj & Musgrave, 2009).
In addition, the event will benefit society economically and also will make the region a tourist attraction region. Target Audience The target audience of Sydney Paralympics is the people with disabilities, communities, organizations, and government. Conceptualization Purpose of the Event The Sydney Paralympics event is aimed at achieving the following purposes: Bringing together individuals with disabilities Appreciate the contribution of people with disabilities and making them feel appreciated Proposing the event to take place annually Collecting, understanding and discussing challenges faced by people with disabilities Methodology/Method Numerous methods exist that are used in hosting an event.
Event hosting is an important aspect of management and managerial strategies will be utilized to maximize the benefits of the project. In the Sydney Paralympics event, three methods, which are structure, theme, and objectives are utilized in ensuring the event is successful. Theme – this is all that the event is all about. The Sydney Paralympics event will be hosted and the participants will be athletes with physical impairments. Some of the factors to be considered to determine eligible athletes include limb deficiency or loss of limb, impaired muscle power, impaired movement, short stature and leg-length difference (Getz, 2008).
The event will be held in Stadium Australia and it will only last one day. This event is aimed at ensuring people with different disabilities come together but only individuals with physical impairments will be allowed to participate. The event will also be viewed as a trial in that future events would bring people with disabilities who cannot participate in athletics. Structure – Structure is the way in which the participants will participate. Five events will take place, which is 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m.
The participants will be categorized and then grouped based on the type of event. If the participants are more than 5 in a group, the groups will then be ranked as group A, group B, etc. The objectives of the event include Bringing together people with disabilities and the community to have fun To create and raise affection towards people with disabilities To give the opportunity to people with disabilities to express their capabilities To introduce stakeholders involved in people with disability industry Stakeholders Stakeholders can be defined as organizations or individuals with a legitimate interest in the outcome of any activity.
Stakeholders are important in ensuring objectives and aims are achieved through their participation in terms of resource allocation or their managerial contributions. In events, stakeholders come with different capabilities and capacities that either influence the stakeholders or the stakeholders been influenced by the outcome of the event. The following table illustrates stakeholders in the event and their roles Sydney Paralympics Stakeholders Roles Event Planner/Manager This is the person responsible for all activities taking place and also plays the role of linking different stakeholders towards understanding the reasons for the event and the outcome of the event.
In addition, the event planner ensures the stakeholders fulfill their promises, allocates available resources and directs the event towards achieving objectives stated (Damm, 2011). Organisational Committee The organizational committee includes individuals from stakeholders and they help in decision making and ensuring planning corresponds to the objectives. Industry players e. g. government, non-governmental organizations dealing with people with disabilities Industry players ensure the event is planned and completed based on governmental regulations. In addition, the industry players provide appropriate resources ranging from monetary to advise. Examples of the industry in Sydney Paralympics include the central government, Sydney government, and people with disability organizations (e. g.
Physical Disability Council of NSW and Physical Disability Council of Austria Ltd. ) Stadium Australia This is the location in which the event will take place. It has a capacity of more than 82,500 people and it will be enough space to host the event. Moreover, the event is a charity in nature and it is important to come to an understanding with the management of the stadium to understand the purpose of the event (Stadium Australia, 2013). Participants (Athletes) These are the people with physical impairments and they will be the actual participants. Spectators/Attendees These include the community and stakeholders cheering and appreciating the contribution of the participants. Media Media coverage is important from promoting the event, to actual been present at the event, and post-event information provision (Damster, 2005).
The media will also inform the community on the benefit of the event and the contribution of the community and stakeholders towards achieving objectives Community The community is the immediate persons who understand the participants and the location of the event (Baum, 2009). The community is beneficial since it has enough information and can advise other stakeholders towards ensuring the event is successful. Business community Business community includes people selling drinks, organizational bringing promotional materials and other commercial related activities.
The importance of this stakeholder is that they bring resources, which can be utilized in ensuring the event becomes successful. Location The event will take place in Stadium Australia. The stadium is located strategically and it allows for numerous means of access. Due to the expectation of many audiences, the event location should be easily accessible and the strategic location of the stadium is beneficial to the event. Timing and Season The event will take place on the first weekend of August 2013.
Due to the demanding nature of the sporty, the athletes who would have registered to participate would have to participate in a one week exercise. The exercise will ensure the individuals are informed on what is expected from them and understanding their physical impairments. The exercise will take place a full week before the first weekend of August. Preparation of Unexpected Situation The major areas where problems may occur during the hosting of Sydney Paralympics can be grouped as medical requirements, community responsibility issues, and audience disruptions. Medical requirements In any sporting event, medical conditions usually occur (King et al. , 2010).
In the Sydney Paralympics, the participants will have numerous physical disabilities meaning that chances of medical issues occurring are high. In addition, the participants have not exercised enough and may result in muscular and flexibility complications. Community/Social responsibility issues In any event, some issues such as noise pollution, alcohol abuse, and wastes are common. It is important to place strategic places dustbins and providing information informing the participants and audiences' usefulness of maintaining the environment (Baum, 2009).
Alcohol is a common problem in any gathering that teens are involved in. Therefore, it is appropriate to ensure measures are in place to manage such problems if they may occur. Audience disruptions The event involves athletes running around the field and some spectators may try to disrupt the process. However, this problem can easily be controlled by involving the management of Stadium Australia. Conclusion Events come in different forms and such an event is the Sydney Paralympics competition.
The event will be organized in Stadium Australia since it is strategically located and it is also easily accessible to the stakeholders. The event involves people with disabilities especially people with physical impairment and the event will be athletics. The participants will choose from five categories in which they will be required to exercise for a week before the commencement of the event on the first weekend of August 2013.
