The working culture is undergoing tremendous changes which have made the concept of leadership to evolve over time. Organizations are slowly giving more importance to leadership and different leadership skills so that better use of resources becomes possible. This has increased the role of proper communication within the employees and others both within and outside the organization. The additional pressure has also ensured better delegation of roles and responsibilities and working in a manner which will help to shape the different leadership skills and develop better leaders for the future. This paper explores the manner in which leadership has changed over years and lays emphasis on the different leadership approaches which are becoming a necessity in the competitive world. In addition to it the paper will also look at analyzing one of the leaders whom I admire by highlighting the different skills and traits which the leader possesses and the manner in which the leader has been able to carry out different activities. This will thereby help to understand the topic of leadership in greater details and provide important information in different directions. Leadership is a process where a person with the required skills and expertise look at finding ways through which different skills of the employees can be used in the best possible manner. This is done with the objective of using the resources in the best possible manner and achieving the results in the most effective and efficient manner (Distributive, 2012). The concept thereby looks at including different traits and skills which will help to create awareness bring effectiveness in the manner different business decisions are taken. A study shows that a leader through his skills and experience is able to influence the employees and others both within and outside the organization to act in a particular manner so that changes can be initiated and the goals can be achieved in the best possible manner (Angelo, 2007). Leadership in the modern era requires finding individual traits which an employee has and assigning task based on it so that the goals can be achieved in the most productive manner. The leader thereby needs to demonstrate skills like hard working, analytical, brilliant, lonely, and imaginative and risk takers (Yukl, 2009). The different skills will help to influence people and make people understand the manner in which they need to work and ensure a high degree of loyalty in the different work which is being carried out (James, 2006). Leadership as a process will look to bring people together by removing the differences and motivating people so that they can be better directed towards a common goal (Yukl, 2009). The competitive world requires having an edge in all areas and good leadership is an area which will help to differentiate one organization from other and thereby ensure better results due to different qualities which the people within the organization have. Through the process of effective leadership positive results can be achieved as better coordination and use of resources becomes possible which will foster a culture of better growth and productivity. The concept of leadership has thereby changed and looks towards including people and other resources so that the leader is able to use his traits which will thereby ensure that the goals can be easily achieved (Rondeau, 2010). The leader needs to work on the fundamental of creating awareness and directing people towards adopting practices which is fair and ethical and at the same time provides an opportunity to use the different resources in the best possible manner (Schermerhorn, 2011). The modern era has also witnessed the growth of leadership and is witnessing different form of leadership like transformational leader, charismatic leaders, transformational leader, and other forms and traits to be widely used in the business setting (Murray, 2010). The different form of leadership and its presence in varied field has made it compulsory for employees and others to be flexible and having different type of skills so that better influence can be exerted on the job. Presently, the field of leadership looks at finding leaders with different traits and qualities which can act as a differentiating factor from other organizations (Visser, 2000). This has given rise to the concept of hierarchical and lateral and upward communication which looks towards ensuring that the leader through the different traits are able to garner maximum support for the business (Wright & Pangey, 2010). This will help to foster a culture where the process of communication is better developed and looks at finding ways through which better control is exercised on the different resources which are used. The present requirement for organizations is to carry out different simulations and exercise to find out the traits which a leader has to have so that the goals can be achieved easily and in the most effective manner (Dignum, Dignum & Sonenberg, 2006). This is seen in case of Western countries where leaders are given extra and influential powers so that they have control over the business proceedings. The modern world has thereby looked at witnessing different form of leadership being developed and used in the daily business dealings which are as One form of leadership widely used today is transformational leadership looks to match the output and results so that the bigger objectives of the business can be easily achieved (Bernie, 2010). The process looks at identifying the different skills and traits of the employees and based on it assigning different roles and responsibilities so that the goals can be achieved in the best manner (Heather, 2009). This has thereby helped to ensure better planning and use of resources in a manner through which wastage are reduced and results are achieved. Relationship leadership is another important form of leadership which is widely prevalence and the focus here is to develop relationship which is of long term. This will help to develop a positive vibe within the organization and ensure that other people accept the leader and his words and acts in a manner through which best results are achieved. This form of leadership which looks towards making the entire organization work together and looks towards identifying the best possible manner through which the goals can be achieved has also resulted in widespread changes in the organizational structure. Distributed leadership has given rise to both hierarchy and lateral and upward communication within the organization as the group dynamics are required to ensure best results (Wright & Pangey, 2010). This has thereby made organizations change their organizational structure from the rigid one and looks towards invoking interest so that people are able to generate self awareness and work towards a common purpose. Task oriented leadership is an aspect of leadership which focuses on the task and looks to accomplish the task in the most efficient manner by ensuring that the resources are used wisely and correctly. The form of leadership based on other skills like relationship and transformational skills looks at bringing the required change in the behavior so that better results can be achieved (Abell, Springer & Kamata, 2009). This has become one of the most important requirements as the manner in which competition is intensifying has made it imperative that leaders move from the traditional ways to modern ways. The need has come where leaders need to have multiple skills and has to use them wisely depending on the situation and requirement. One of the leaders whom I admire is Ratan Tata of Tata Group as his leadership skills and traits has helped to changed the manner in which the business performs and has multiplied the opportunities and developed the organization to be one of the successful organization. Ratan Tata of Tata Group has acted as a leader and shaped the manner in which the conglomerate performed. His business acumen and ability to bring people together has contributed towards growing the business as the integration of different functions helped to consolidate the business. Innovation and working on the global arena is one of the prime reason which has shaped the working culture of Tata Group and transformed the working style (Tata, 2008). The ability of Ratan Tata to integrate the different functions through proper mix of culture, ability to motivate employees and bring the best out of them and developing proper compensation plans has helped to improve the manner in which leadership skills have been carried out. Studies have highlighted that successful leaders are able to demonstrate charismatic and transformational style (James, 2006). The same qualities were demonstrated by Rata Tata as being enthusiastic, self confident and able to clearly communicate with the employees helped him create a culture where better results were achieved (Lakshman & Shukla, 2005). His visionary skills and ability to integrate different culture made people work towards a common goal and united all people to work for a common purpose (Innah, 2009). His skills were clearly witnessed in his self confidence and ability to communicate with the employees regarding the manner they need to act to get the best results from employees at all levels. Ratan Tata was able to demonstrate transformational skills by making his subordinates realize the importance of working in a planned and proper manner, motivating the employees through the different rewards so that development was witnessed on all fronts (Lakshman & Shukla, 2005). This helped to bring the best out of the employees as they were better committed and were motivated to work in a manner which moulded the different business requirements to meet the group goals. Another important leadership trait which I admire about Ratan Tata is a strategist and his ability to some up with innovative and solutions which were different and helped to solve the problems on hand. This helped the organization as it inculcated the process of engaging into group discussions and discussing the different issues before reaching any solutions (Dalal & Basu, 2007). This process has helped the organization to plan for the future and found out talented people who are capable of leading the organization in the future. The process has helped them to strengthen their human resource process and helped to identify the different work force they need to have for future development of the business. In addition to it leaders need to have different opposing style so that they the different qualities help the business in different situations (Kumle, Kelly & Nancy, 2000). Ratan Tata was flexible and adjusted to different situations in the best possible manner which helped him to use his different skills in such a manner that it helped to improve the business performance. The different qualities which Ratan Tata was able to demonstrate by being a leader also ensured that he was influential. This helped him to bring about a change in the behaviour of people and ensure that even the difficult tasks were accomplished in the best manner. A proper understanding all around and a good rapport with the employees both within and outside the organization has helped to achieve superior and better results. Ratan Tata has thereby been able to denote different leadership skills and traits which have helped him to use the different resources in the best possible manner. The process has also helped to bring the best out of every person and has thereby multiplied the overall efficiency through which business performs. This also brings an important directive for the future and highlights the manner in which different changes will have to be made and adjustments will have to be made to ensure better results. This will help to multiply the overall process through which the different resources are used and will maximize the working scenarios. Today’s global business environment requires that organization understands international interactions which will help to bring the required changes through which organization can prosper. The understanding level will be predetermined by the degree of understanding which the organization has to work on a global level (Gupta & Govindraj, 2002). This has developed the need to have leaders with the required competencies (Suutari, 2002) but a gap still exist between the requirements and the actual realization that the world is witnessing (Adler & Bartholomew, 2002). The complexity for leaders have further increased as domestic organizations have started to face international competition which requires that the dynamics, complexity and diversity is understood in a manner which will facilitate best possible outcome for the business. The essay looks towards evaluating the manner global leadership is gaining prominence and the different challenges that the global leadership presents. Along with it the paper dwells on the different theories and strategies which has helped to bring the required transformation in leadership and is a per-requisite in today’s competitive world. Understanding the different aspect of global leadership will thus transform the entire operations and will help to develop the required interrelationship through which better decisions will be taken. The aim of leadership is to thereby find out the different factors which will help to increase the contribution of members towards the group goal (Worral & Cooper, 2001). This will help to develop the traits and skills through which better awareness can be achieved and the focus can be developed towards achieving the bigger goals. The process will also help the employees to be better associated with the organization and will thereby be able to contribute in a better manner. The culture developed due to it will ensure better trust and loyalty and will help to bring people together thereby multiplying the productivity and ensuring better all round development (Schermerhorn, 2011). The modern era also requires the development of shared leadership where the focus is on discussion and arriving at the best solutions so that the different obstacles which the business faces can be removed (Bateman & Snell). The result would be creating of an environment where people at all levels will be able to provide their inputs and will feel that they are associated with the organization and have a role in shaping the performance of the organization. This will ensure a sense of pride among all employees and will reduce the personal differences thereby carving a path for growth and prosperity in the future. Leadership is thereby a concept which helps to bring the required change in the manner organization works and fosters a culture through which better results are achieved. The globalized and competitive role has increased the role of leaders as they are required to perform a lot of different functions and need to bring about a change in the behavior so that overall effectiveness is achieved. This will help to bring the required changes and will create the required dimensions through which effectiveness in the use of resources will become possible. The leadership traits will further need to bring a change in the manner in which employees and others within the organization works so that better effectiveness is achieved in the overall process of carrying out work. This will help to bring the change and ensure that leaders are able to provide and guide the employees in a correct manner so that the different resources which can used in the most effective manner. The leader needs to demonstrate different leadership skills and traits so that a change in behavior can be witnessed and the organization is better placed in carrying out the different in the most effective and efficient manner.
