of the Economic Analysis in the GCC Nominal GDP is the GDP evaluated at current price level. It includes the changes in prices due to increase or decrease in marked prices. For this reason, it is normally affected by changes in prices. In order to avoid the the problems associated with changes in price, another measure of GDP rather than nominal GDP is normally used. It is known as real GDP. Real GDP is evaluated at the current market prices of the base year. It is not affected by change in prices.

Note that the base year’s consumer price index is always 100. Rael GDP is calculated as folloes; Real GDP= (Nominal GDP/CPI)* CPI of Base year GDP and CPI for UAE YEAR Nominal GDP (Million USD) Consumer Price Index Real GDP (Million USD) 1995 63.6 129.6 49.1 1996 71.0 133.5 53.2 1997 72.2 136.8 52.8 1998 73.4 139.6 52.6 1999 82.9 142.0 58.4 2000 103.9 144.9 71.7 2001 103.3 149.0 69.3 2002 109.8 153.5 71.5 2003 124.3 159.8 77.8 2004 147.8 168.8 87.6 2005 180.6 182.0 99.2 2006 222.1 200.6 110.7 2007 258.2 224.1 115.2 2008 314.8 238.9 131.8 2009 270.3 241.8 111.8 2010 302.0 246.0 122.8 Source: knoema. com Graph 1: GDP (Million USD) for UAE GDP and CPI for KSA YEAR Nominal GDP (Million USD) Consumer Price Index Real GDP (Million USD) 1995 142.5 100.9 141.2 1996 157.7 102.1 154.5 1997 165 101.7 162.2 1998 146 100.7 146 1999 161.2 100.5 160.4 2000 188.7 98.7 191.2 2001 183.3 98.1 186.9 2002 188.8 98.8 191.1 2003 214.9 99.4 216.2 2004 250.7 99.8 251.2 2005 315.8 101 312.7 2006 356.6 103.9 343.2 2007 385.2 110.7 348 2008 476.9 120.6 395.4 2009 377.2 125.7 300.1 2010 448.4 132.5 338.4 Graph 2: GDP (Million USD) for KSA GDP and CPI for Oman YEAR Nominal GDP (Million USD) Consumer Price Index Real GDP (Million USD) 1995 13.8 105.2 13.1 1996 15.3 105.2 14.5 1997 15.8 105.3 15 1998 13.9 105.8 13.1 1999 15.5 105.4 14.7 2000 19.5 104.3 18.7 2001 19.4 103.7 18.7 2002 20 103.5 19.3 2003 21.5 103.9 20.7 2004 24.7 105.4 23.4 2005 30.9 108.2 28.5 2006 36.8 112.8 32.3 2007 41.9 122.1 34.2 2008 60.6 136.5 44.4 2009 46.9 137.8 34 2010 57.9 143.6 40.3 Source: knoema. com Graph 3: GDP for Oman GDP and CPI for Qatar YEAR Nominal GDP (Million USD) Consumer Price Index Real GDP (Million USD) 1995 8.1 115 7 1996 9.1 120.8 7.5 1997 11.3 124.2 9.1 1998 10.3 127.2 8.1 1999 12.4 129.1 9.6 2000 17.6 131.3 13.4 2001 17.5 133.2 13.1 2002 19.4 133.5 14.5 2003 23.5 136.5 17.2 2004 31.7 145.8 21.7 2005 44.5 158.7 28.1 2006 60.8 177.4 34.3 2007 79.5 201.9 39.4 2008 115 232.2 49.5 2009 97.6 220.9 44.2 2010 127.3 221.8 57.4 Source: Knoema Graph 4: GDP for Qatar GDP and CPI for Kuwait YEAR Nominal GDP (Million USD) Consumer Price Index Real GDP (Million USD) 1995 27.2 84.9 32 1996 31.5 86.9 36.2 1997 30.4 87.5 34.7 1998 25.9 88.5 29.3 1999 30.1 91.9 32.8 2000 37.7 92.2 40.7 2001 34.9 94.9 36.8 2002 38.1 94.7 40.2 2003 47.8 95.5 50.1 2004 59.4 98 60.6 2005 80.8 102.3 78.8 2006 101.6 106.1 95.8 2007 114.7 114.1 100.5 2008 148.8 124.1 119.6 2009 109.5 125.8 87.1 2010 132.6 131 101.2 Source: Knoema Graph 5: GDP for Kuwait GDP and CPI for Bahrain YEAR Nominal GDP (Million USD) Consumer Price Index Real GDP (Million USD) 1995 5.8 5.8 6.3 1996 6.1 6.1 6.5 1997 6.4 6.4 6.7 1998 6.2 6.2 6.6 1999 6.6 6.6 7 2000 8 8 8.6 2001 8 8 8.7 2002 8.5 8.5 9.1 2003 9.7 9.7 10.3 2004 11.2 11.2 11.6 2005 13.5 13.5 13.6 2006 15.8 15.8 15.6 2007 18.5 18.5 17.5 2008 22.1 22.1 19.9 2009 29.3 29.3 25.7 2010 22.7 22.7 19.5 Graph 6: GDP for Bahrain Given the population and real GDP, GDP per capita can then be calculated as follows;
