Article Review The article, “Artisan markets are lovely- but they ain’t going to save the economy” strongly argues that the recently proposed tax system would not benefit the UK economy. The writer Deborah Orr opines that the idea of “encouraging ordinary people to drive growth” under the new change proposal would be “something of an oxymoron” in a developed country like UK (Orr). According to the Germans, “a market economy organization could not afford to be engaged in all the areas, necessary or otherwise, engaged in by an organization in the planned economy.” (qtd. in Nilsson).

Scholars argue that focusing on production is the only way to manage effective market economy organization. The article claims that increased consumption would drive growth and thereby lead to market economy organization; and the consumption rate will not be improved unless there is a proportionate rise in production. Increased dominance of large corporations is another problem regulators need to resolve while dealing with market economy organization. Orr also opines that unfair business practices of such large market players weaken the competitiveness of the local market and ultimately affect economic growth of the nation.

Orr adds that ordinary people can produce nothing that will meet the needs of other ordinary people. This situation negatively affects the concept of market economy organization. Finally, the article argues that technological advancement has weakened ordinary people’s access to ordinary market. 2. Modern economies consider that that specialization of labor is a significant source of economic welfare. Economists strongly argue that the concept of labor specialization has far reaching effects on nations’ economic sustainability.

Economies of scale are argued to be the major benefit of labor specialization. Evidences suggest that each worker would be more efficient and productive if a complex job is distributed among workers and each of them is assigned with individual simpler tasks. Better utilization of workers’ skills is another significant advantage associated with the specialization of labor. It is clear that different workers may have skills and efficiency in different areas. Therefore, the process of division of a complex job into simpler task would be recommendable for an organization to effectively distribute its various job tasks among workers in accordance with their skill and efficiency.

Thus, it is clear that the concept of specialization of labor would improve total volume of production, which in turn drives consumption and thereby growth. In short, the process of labor specialization would positively affect an economy. 3. Orr suggests that the government has a pivotal role to play in overcoming the current issues associated with the economic downturn. The article points out elitism in British economy and strongly argues that the government must provide great emphasis on the country’ educational systems.

The writer continues that a substantial educational attainment would be the only measure to “pluck a person out of the ranks of ordinary people” (Orr). The writer also recommends that the government must encourage local competition and prevent large companies from practicing protectionism in order to serve their own business interests.
