The paper "Ngai Tahu Holdings Corporation Organizational Design Features" is an outstanding example of a marketing case study.   Ngai Tahu Holdings Corporation is a New Zealand company present in property development, seafood processing, investment and tourism. The company has been steadily making huge returns on investment because of consistent use of knowledge, resources and competencies to become competitive. Given a diversified strategy, it has spread its risk into different sectors and benefited from coordination, de-centralization, and establishing line and staff relationships. Ngai Tahu is a formally structured organized with a management board under a chief executive.

Using a modern matrix structure, the organization’ s employees locate themselves in a strong multi-project environment despite the tensions between the requirement of the different functions and projects. The structure espouses teamwork, great planning, good management skills, and willingness to compromise, and good communication. In this organizational design, effort and energies go to designated projects amid occasional tensions and role conflicts. On the other hand, competitiveness, globalization, knowledge economy, and diversity and information technology inform the latest developments in the organizational design field. As well, strategy, environment, size of an organization, age of the organization, and technology are contingency factors affect Ngai Tahu organizational design. In this essay, attention was given to the analysis of current design features of Ngai Tahu Holdings as well as recommendations to its current organizational design.

Specifically, the essay recognizes Ngai Tahu as a formal organization in a mature stage and in a mechanistic state complete with procedures, structure and rules. Having grown in size, Ngai Tahu has become predictable as it slowly transforms from being mechanistic to organic in structure.

Finally, the essay recommends the development of work-study systems and reviews and job description that matches the actual skills and qualifications.

Moreover, it recommends reward systems for best-performing employees in informal organizations. Specifically, the essay shows that Maori people special employee skills and competencies in cooking traditional Maori seafood and handling guests and visitors. These skills should be nurtured and protected.
