The paper "Wicked Problem of Shifting to More Renewable Sources of Energy" is a great example of marketing coursework. Throughout the years, there have been problems in trying to define sustainable development based on equity, nature of the decisions, and optimal solutions. Hence, sustainable development is considered a wicked problem, which is considered a difficult situation to describe and has no final solution to acquiring the interests of all the stakeholders. While solving the wicked problem, there are no true or false and correct and incorrect solutions. In some cases, the wicked problems are difficult or impossible to define or solve since they consist of a high degree of complexity and the ever-changing needs.
What is viewed as an appropriate or optimal in solving the wicked problems depends on the existing background and the interests of the shareholders? While trying to solve an aspect of the wicked problem, new wicked problems often arise making it difficult and challenging for the find an appropriate solution. These factors make it difficult to solve the wicked problem (World Nuclear Association, 2016). There are so many wicked problems associated with focusing more on renewable energy.
Typically, these factors have difficulties with no definitive or objective solutions; as a result, they lack the total solution of defining the problem. Based on such a definition, shifting to more renewable sources of energy is one of the fundamental complexities of the system that could be wicked to understand and manage. In addition, wicked problems seem to have several interacting systems such as economic, social, and economic aspects (William, 2012). With increased concern on the sources of energy, the environmental, social, and economic systems continue to reinforce the growing level of these complexities, velocities, and uncertainties.
However, considering the current popularity and trendiness of the sustainability issues, most states have not been able to manage the progress needed for global sustainable development. Shifting to more renewable sources of energy as a wicked problem Studies consider renewable sources of energy to be sustainable and clean energy. The clean energy problem is associated closely with the issue of climate change, although they are unequal. In most cases, climate change is viewed as given the anthropogenic warming occurred in the past and will continue to take place unless there is a substantial reduction in a number of greenhouse gasses either through dramatic changes or geoengineering the methods used in the production of energy.
Sustainable energy assumes that changes in energy production methods are important to correct the manmade climate change and other constraints and provisions (Conklin, 2006, 188). The problem associated with energy is also the need to supply energy continuously for the lifetime of the human race and acquisition of energy to the developed countries, that is, even if carbon were made clean using methods such as carbon sequestration, the problem associated with energy would not be solved through coal combustion due to its infinite nature supply. People often disagree on the size of energy supply but not its finitude.
It is also important to include the security of the supply. If the supply of oil were clean and infinite but sourced through the hostile states, the design used in the product system needs to accommodate such constraints. Terms such as alternative, renewable, green, and sustainable are always too nebulous, overloaded, and ideological.
It is important to note that clean does not necessarily mean renewable. Hence, if the coal were infinite and clean, then would suffice (Kiesecker, 2011). In addition, most energy sources are referred to as renewable. These sources might not be clean sufficiently for the indefinite use considering that energy production densities are very low in supplying the significant portion of the global demand without modification to the ecosystem. Currently, there is a growing concern on the threats associated with energy security, climate change, and increasing prices of oil, which have stirred interests in the development of renewable energy with this one ensuring clean, green energy in progress.
Even though renewable energy is considered clean, there are several myths associated with it. Renewable energy is clean, and all green is a myth (World Bank, 2014). The renewable energy offers the opportunity of reducing the level of carbon emissions; however, generation of energy through the wind and solar require a huge amount of land to deliver a relatively small amount of energy considered to the fossil fuels.
Therefore, shifting to renewable energy often result in significant energy sprawl posing challenges to the conservation biodiversity.
