The paper 'Organisation Behavior-Leadership - Josh Martin" is a good example of a management case study. Being a good leader in an organization entails several things. A business leader needs to portray good leadership styles and behave or act well towards other people in an organization. It is essential for a business leader to create a better relationship with the organization and other members in an organization by attaining organizational objectives, human objectives, and social objectives. An organization will perform well if a business leader respects employees’ rights, handles and relate with employees in a friendly way.
As a business leader, it is also important to know how to motivate employees and make them work towards the attainment of organizational objectives. Leaders need to shun away from harassing and overworking employees. They need to listen to employees suggestions and make them feel like part of the company. This paper, therefore, seeks to evaluate various management literature and use them to address issues raised in the case study and provide an effective recommendation. Summary of the articles The selected three articles are quite relevant to the case study.
The first article is about organizational behavior. It looks at people’ s character in an organization, motivation satisfaction and rewarding of employees, leadership, and organizational politics and power. The second article is about leadership styles. It looks at types of leadership and suggest how and when to use the leadership styles. The third article is about organizational culture, job satisfaction and leadership behavior. It looks at how organizational culture relates to job satisfaction and leadership behavior. It also illustrates the importance of good leadership and personal relationship within an organization.
The three articles are relevant to the case study since they all tackle the major issues raised in the case. Issues such as leadership styles, personality in an organization and power are well tackled in the articles. This, therefore, assists in developing solutions to the problems raised in the case. The articles do also assist in understanding worker’ s motivations and emotions and management’ s attitudes and values. Case analysis There are a number of organizational issues that can be identified in Josh Martin’ s case. The major issues that can easily be identified in the case include appropriate leadership style, leadership behavior, personal relationship and job satisfaction and rewarding.
Using the right leadership style is very important for organizational development. Business leaders should always be sober and analytical when deciding which type of leadership style to employ. They need to choose a leadership style that greatly favors the needs of other people in an organization rather than those that favors them. Murray (2012) argues that leadership is not about fulfilling personal needs. It is about meeting the needs of individuals being led to an organization. Murray (2012) suggests several leadership styles that can be employed in several situations and demand.
These leadership styles include visionary, coaching, affiliative, democratic, pacesetting and commanding. The visionary type of leadership is suitable when a company is looking for a new direction. The main goal of this leadership style is to direct organizational members towards new goals. The Coaching style of leadership directs employees on performance improvement and assists them in linking their goals with that of the organization. Affiliative leadership concentrates a lot on the importance of working together as a team and on developing harmony among organizational members.
The democratic leadership style works well in a situation where the direction that an organization needs to take is unclear and the leader wants to incorporate group members’ wise decisions and ideas. The commanding or the military style of leadership is the most commonly employed. It is, however, the least effective style of leadership.
