The brand name is a reflection of the company’ s commitment to providing healthy solutions for fast foods. The company is a renowned sandwich outlet in the United Kingdom, which has invested in a bullet train, coffee bar, and fine restaurants. Sinclair and Julian founded the company in 1986, with the main aim of supplying healthy sandwiches for customers while maintaining the food’ s nutritious content (Frei et. al, 2012).

The company was founded as a response to a market niche for providing natural sandwiches with no additives, preservatives, and other chemicals. The initial capital for the company was borrowed from the bank and amounted to 17,000 pounds. During the start-up, the two co-founders did not have employees and prepared the sandwiches themselves. The company currently operates about 335 shops globally and has a turnover of approximately 445 million pounds annually.   Additional to sandwiches, the company offers beverages such as coffee, baguettes, and salads.

All these products are hand-made by the company’ s chefs without any additives or chemicals whatsoever. The employees of the company are customer-oriented; adding to the taste of its delicacies (Massetti, 2013). PRET A Manger is currently launching a range of other natural products such as chicken salad, salmon nigiri, ham salad, vegetarian sushi, dandelion and burdock, berries, cherries, and fruit sticks. Snacks and desserts are also offered at PRET A Manger. The company’ s markets are founded in the US and UK. This is a wide market with well-satisfied customers who have even made the brand a household name.

The company, running over 355 stores globally, gives it an advantage over its competitors. To protect its business model and quality control, the company does not operate franchises at all costs. Major competitors of Pret A Manger are Costa Coffee, Greggs Plc. and Starbucks Corporation.
