Typical Job Duties: To carry out patient examination, diagnosis and treatment especially those under referral To collaborate with other healthcare professionals in prevention and management of diseases within the hospital facility To carry out regular checks in wards by observing patient’s progress as may be demanded by hospital policy To attend to critical outpatient cases that might require advanced observation To make necessary patient reference to other healthcare professionals such as radiologists, cardiologists, gynaecologists among others depending on individual case To interpret and implement recommendations of other medical professionals concerning patients’ condition To liaise with other health professionals within the hospital setting to promote quality healthcare To undertake specific treatment procedures such as operations as may be required of the particular condition To prepare patient’s records and thorough paperwork for future reference by other health professionals and as a legal requirement To carry out regular consultation with other doctors and healthcare professionals within the department to build and maintain teamwork To promote health literacy and education especially to non-health professionals within the hospital or outside as may be required by the policy To supervise and provide necessary guidance to medical students especially during their internship or even inexperienced medical doctors in the department Physical Requirement: Physical fitness is a requisite in this job. Ability to stand and walk around for long period without affecting reasoning capacity. In addition, ability to work beyond normal hours without breaks is also mandatory. Working Condition: High risk atmosphere due to handling of various infectious diseases. Regular physical contact with patients exposes the doctor to a risk of contracting serious infections. In addition, contact with most medicines and exposure to wide range of drugs is dangerous. Working Tools: Stethoscope, Ophthalmoscope and Sphygmomanometer among other tools and machines depending with specific case under his or her care. Reporting to: The doctor reports directly to senior medical superintendent or any other senior officer related to his work in the hospital. He or She also directs nurses and other health professionals on specific occasions as well as regular operations within the department. Qualification and Skills Required: Education – A degree in Medicine is a mandatory requirement for this position. Post Graduate diploma in any related subject such as anaesthetics, Obstetrics or Ophthalmology among others is an added advantage Working Experience: Minimum of three years working experience in reputable health institution is required.
