IntroductionThis is a small piece of writing that enables students to document what they have learned over a period. It details their thoughts and insights concerning their learning experience. It motivates us to review and merge learning, to assess performance, and to plan any learning in the future using the learning experiences of the past. This way, it prepares us to take control of our own learning and finally enable us develop into independent learners. How do we measure our learning growth in the event of learning? What challenges do we encounter in the event of learning and how can they impede our learning progress? By coming up with necessary solutions to respond to afore questions it enables to improve our systematizing and learning skills. The definition of critical and reflective thinking gives us an insight of how closely related they are.

Many scholars have come up with varied definitions. Halpern defines critical thinking as the application of cognitive skills or strategies that raises the probability of a better result. According to Halpern a thought that is with purpose, reason and with an objective one that interests itself in providing solution to the problems, coming up with inferences, reckoning likelihoods, and coming up with decisions in the event the thinker is using the dexterity that are effective and thoughtful for the meticulous context and kind of thinking chore.

Critical thinking is at times referred to as directed thinking since it interest itself on the desired results. In view of Bolton’s definition critical thinking is the act of coming up with an analysis, reconsideration and developing questions on a wider field of topics. This includes such as development of curriculum, matters of social justice, application of technology, politics, theories on learning, or matters of culture.

However, on the other hand, reflective thinking according to other authors is a section of the critical thinking that can be applied in words to connote sections that detail analysis and judgment making concerning what has taken place. Nonetheless, author Dewey defines reflective thinking as that aggressive, importunate, and careful consideration of truth or hypothetical form of knowledge, of the grounds that facilitate knowledge, and the additional finale to which knowledge is destined.

He also adds that learners are cognizant of and take charge of their learning by keenly engaging in reflective thinking. This enables them to evaluate on what they know, what they are supposed to know, and how they can strike a balance in the event of learning. In a nut shell, critical thinking is a process which entails a wider field of thinking dexterity which is destined to produce favorable results whereas reflective thinking is a section which interests itself with the procedures of coming up with rulings concerning what has occurred in the past. Reflective thinking is the most critical part as one is tempted to come up with conclusions basing on the dynamic society and the world at large where information is readily available and its change is inevitable.

This, however, as forced learners to be in steady thought changing directions and developing new schemes of handling problems. Consequently, reflective thinking is a very crucial tool in our daily life as we are confronted by tough situations where it helps us to draw up new plans. This enables us to acquire new skills in solving the daily problems.
