Using a Venue Condition Assessment form and a Likert scale, the report assessed the room and presented its findings together with supporting information. Our experience in inspection certainly facilitated appropriate and justifiable information regarding the venue’s condition. Therefore, we present this Venue Condition Assessment for the King Harbour Bridge View that occurred on June 20, 2012. Generally, the inspected room in the hotel is in good condition, clean and well maintained. Yours sincerely Name of the group: Executive summary The InterContinental Sydney is the focus of this Venue Condition Assessment report. For many years, there have been various modifications in order to satisfy the current demand. With the stiff competition offered by other existing hotels in the city, the InterContinental Sydney Hotel always ascertains that its facilities are in good condition to attract and retain as many clients as possible. To achieve this, the hotel carries out refurbishments and renovations on its facilities regularly. This is not only vital in the acquisition and retention of clients, but also in satisfaction of the shareholders, local community, suppliers, and employees’ needs. This is because the conditions of the hotel have a direct impact on the aforementioned stakeholders and the firm’s financial position. To document the firm’s condition, there was a need for a comprehensive assessment. The specific area assessed in the report is the King Harbour Bridge View room in the InterContinental Sydney hotel. The room covers a total area of 30 square meters, and the inspection was on various areas like structural, security, information technology and information system, fixtures, furniture and equipment, as well as heating, ventilation, and air-condition (Keith 2011). Therefore, the basis of the report is on the information collected during inspection. The report also incorporate some photographs and tables to support the information provided. The scale consists of five stages of assessment, which include Strongly Disagree, Disagree Neither Disagree or Agree, Agree, and Strongly Agree. Scholars usually translate these measurement stages into numbers, such as, 1 for Strongly Agree up to 5 for Strongly Disagree (Babbie 2012). In this report, the Venue Condition Assessment form includes the Likert Scale. Depending on the nature of objects under measurement, the scale can adjust the kind of words used. For instance, in the case of the King Harbour View room of the InterContinental Sydney, the report analyses physical goods like bathroom, bedding, floor, and working area, thus the use of words like excellent at one, and poor at five. High risk of failure and breakdown, hazardous with huge risks to OH&S matters Venue Condition Assessment Form In the report, the Venue Condition Assessment form contains four main areas including HVAC, FF&E, security, and IT & IS. The report also adopted the Likert Scale in order to help in the rating of the chosen venue’s conditions. Here, 1 represents excellent, while 5 symbolizes extremely bad condition that needs replacement. The walls and the floors are made of tiles, and its ceiling is in proper condition. The floors are made of smooth, but not slippery material that is safe for the occupants to walk around conveniently. This floor material is also suitable for the room as it makes the place warm for the occupants. The hotel room’s ceilings are in good condition, as they do not leak, not have any openings. As per the conducted inspection, the room has good lighting system. This is evident in the properly fixed light bulbs on the ceiling. The room shows no signs of dangerously hanging and naked wires that can endanger occupants’ lives. The room has bed lamps fixed on firm stands at both sides of the bed. In terms of the ventilation, the room has enough openings in terms of wide windows, enough to provide fresh air circulation. There are also fans used for air conditioning in the room. Suitable windows are in the bedroom, lounge, and the bathroom. The surface of the room has a lighting, heating, and ventilation systems, as well as fire extinguishers. The sinks, taps, showers, and bathtub are in good condition; hence, rated one. Fixtures, Furniture, and Equipment (FF&E) The room has no safety matters relating to the floor coverings, as it is easy to clean and non-slippery. There is reliable lighting system in the room that keeps it well lit all the time. There is a hand basin fixed on the wall, near the bathroom door. There is paper towel container and sensor foam installed above the hand basin (see appendix 4). The room has properly fixed fire extinguisher easily accessible to anyone who might want to use it in a fire emergency. To enhance the right usage of fire extinguishers, there are safety instructions placed by the system. The entire aforementioned are at approximately three meters from its floor. In the bathroom, the tap are in good condition and easy to turn on and off. The taps have clear labels of the hot and cold water, as well as how to use them. In terms of the sinks, they are made of stainless material and kept dry. The position of the sinks is strategic in order to give the occupant an easy time in the bathroom. Neither of the sinks leaks, nor has rust (see appendix number 3). Moreover, the bathroom has a spacious bathtub strategically fixed to the wall, with separate taps to supply hot and cold water. The bathtub is good condition, as there are no signs of dirt and breakages (see appendix 2). The bathtub and sinks are in good condition; hence first rating. The toilets are also in good shape, with proper flashing and sanitizing systems. The room also has properly fixed dressing mirror (see appendix 5), bed lamps, towels, toiletries, and clean bedding and curtains (InterContinental Sydney 2012). Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Condition (HVAC) The room has a well fitted air-condition, which is good condition. The room’s bathroom has a heating system gives a client an option to use hot, warm, or cold water. The room is also well ventilated; hence, ensuring a fresh circulation of air in the room. Regarding to the room’s ventilation, the room has sufficient openings in terms of wide windows, enough to offer fresh air circulation. There are also fans used for air conditioning in the room. Appropriate windows are various areas of the room including the bedroom, lounge, and the bathroom. The surface of the room has a lighting, heating, and ventilation systems, as well as fire extinguishers. The doors and windows of the hotel room are in good condition (InterContinental Sydney 2012). This means that they have excellent locking systems and handles. The general rating of the room’s HVAC is good, that is number two on the Likert scale. Security The room has a well-fixed fire extinguishers and in most areas of the building. To ensure safety and easy accessibility, the gadget is on the wall. Moreover, it has clear and legible instructions to enable anyone to use it in case of emergency. Close to the extinguisher are fire blankets, and fire alarms switch to provide alert incase of fire outbreak in the building. Apart from the fire blankets and fire extinguishers, the room has high quality locking systems that ensure that the occupant is safe in the room. There are no signs of breakages or failures in the doors and windows; hence, occupants are safe from any intruders. In addition, there is a first aid kit at the bathroom, and the room generally appears to be in good condition (InterContinental Sydney 2012). This makes it ranked 2nd in the Likert scale. Information Technology and Information systems (IT & IS) InterContinental Sydney (2012) says that the hotel has most of its facilities, such as, the suites, guest rooms, and conference and meeting rooms installed with informational systems. For instance, the rooms have a fast internet access that enables the clients comfortably connect with the world during their stay in the hotel. This is also crucial in the communication processes within the facility; hence, full satisfaction of the customers’ needs. Therefore, the room’s IT and IS rating is at number one (Rainer 2011). Conclusion This report focused on the inspection of one of the rooms of the InterContinental Sydney in Australia. The examined room is King Harbour Bridge View, particularly its bathroom, bedding, security, information systems, heating, ventilation, and air-condition among others. Report involved a Venue Condition Assessment Form and a Likert scale necessary in the examination of the selected area. The report addressed five major areas including the structural, HVAC, FF& E, IT &IS, and security. Following the assessment, every item in the hotel room was in good condition, safe, clean, and properly maintained.
