In contemporary society, the dynamic business environment calls for effective organizational change management in pursuit of stability and sustainability across locations. From this perspective, the way businesses manage change and how successful they are at it, depends largely on the nature of the business, the change itself, and the stakeholders or workforce in the process. Background: External and Internal Analysis of Nokia In the first instance, it is essential to highlight the fact that Nokia was able to experience adverse implications from the external factors because of the onset of the downfall of the company following the shift of the behavior of the consumers by the market.
Categorically, integration of the smartphones was critical in affecting the position and reputation of Nokia as one of the practitioners in the market. For instance, the development and release of the iPhone by Apple was a critical factor in the onset of the downfall of Nokia.
It is essential to note the inability or incapability of Nokia to match the position of the market upon construction by Apple following the influence of the new products in influencing the behavior and concerns of the consumers (Scholten and Fynes, 2017). These products were essential in decreasing the preferences of Nokia’ s products across the world. The external factors did also include the quick launch of other phones, which sought to assure the development of application software in the mobile and phones.
The smartphones were the major external factors, which led to the reduction of the number of the consumers seeking to exploit or utilize Nokia’ s products, thus, enormous implications on the profit levels in areas such as Germany, Indonesia, and Russia. Nokia also had to deal with critical competition from diverse new entrants such as iOS and Android, thus, difficulties in the maximization of the market products at their disposal (Laamanen, Lamberg, and Vaara, 2016). Internally, Nokia did experience certain challenges regarding the growing competition in the external environment.
During this difficult period, there was a great need for Nokia to exploit the best leaders within the organization to oversee the effective management of change. Nonetheless, the internal maintenance of the company did not have the desired accountability and leadership (Fullan, 2014). The integration of the smartphone demanded the implementation of an aligned plan directing the company is moving further in pursuit of the desired goals. Based on the above assessment, Nokia did desire a change to manage or improve its position and reputation in the highly competitive market.
