The report looks into the generation of an idea and evaluates the manner in which the idea was finally generated. The evaluation of the four phases will thereby help to understand the manner in which a service is finally developed and help to bring the required creativity in developing new products or services. Phase 1: Background or Knowledge Accumulation The development of a new idea generated when I came across and noticed that the student card which I carry has a limited function and is only used as a card while going to the university. The limited use of the student card increases the complexities as for other purposes I have to carry other cards like a parking card has to be taken to park the vehicles; either plastic money or liquid cash has to be carried when I purchase products like coffee or pay the food bill. This increases the risk as carrying the different things results in more cards and having a multi purpose card which would serve the different purpose would help. This would ensure that I had to carry just one card and the chances of misplacing things would reduce. This would also reduce the risk and enable to concentrate on other areas. To bring an end to this problem I was looking to find out an alternative and discussed the same with my friends. I had even searched for alternatives through which a multi card like a debit card which is used for withdrawing money directly from bank or paying directly through the card shows the manner in which efficiency is gained through the use of the card. The same was discussed with the friends so that an alternative could be found out which would be a multipurpose card and serve different purpose. Phase 2: The Incubation Process To get rid of the problem and to develop a product which would serve as a multipurpose one I searched for different information which would help to develop one multipurpose card. I subconsciously thought the different purpose which the multipurpose card would work on. On the first instance I thought that the function of the student card should be increased. The student card on the first instance would act as a student card and will be used in universities and colleges. The student card would be linked to the bank account which would allow students to pay for their expenses and did not have to carry money. To ensure that the multi purpose card achieved its objectives I through that a chip would be inserted which would help to carry out the different functions effectively. To improve the use of the student card for different purpose I continued to wonder the different things which can further be attached to the car. This brought over the parking area where students have to wait and take parking tickets. Linking the student card to the same would serve the purpose of paying for the parking tickets and students will be able to use the same card for an additional purpose (Tannenbaum & Yukl, 2002). This will thereby help to ensure that the student card serves different purpose and will thereby help to ensure that the function of the student card increases. Phase 3: The Idea Experience/Generation The idea of having a multipurpose student card was generated through a brainstorming session where the different things which can be linked to the student card were discussed. The entire team discussed on the different option of having a multi purpose student card which would serve different purpose and could be linked to different things like making payment from the student card, paying for the parking through the same card and other multi purpose which would help to improve efficiency in the use of the student card. The brainstorming session looked towards thinking out of the box and finding new ideas through which the use of student card can be increased. There were situations during the brainstorming session came up with weird ideas and looked towards working on those. The brainstorming session further ensured that the different options were thought and the chances of having a product which could be linked to the student card were discussed at length (Dessler, Griffiths & Lloyd-Walker, 2007). While looking to discuss the different options the different risk and benefits were discussed and based on it the proposition was developed which would help to have a student card which would serve many purpose. The team also used a strategy where they focused on developing lateral thinking exercise. This exercise was developed where each member based on their subconscious mind discussed different issues and manner in which the student card could improve its use and serve as a multi purpose card. This exercise helped to explore the thinking style of each member within the group and helped to explore the different options that the multi purpose student card would serve (Enright & Subramanian, 2008). The process of lateral thinking helped to bring different alternatives and the different things which could be added like a card which acts as a plastic money and an identity card for the university. The process helped in the generation of new idea and transformed the experience as it helped to shift the focus on developing a product which was unique and would help to increase its usage for the students. The entire process discussion resulted in confusion and objections from different members as some thought that their idea was better and the others thought their idea was better. The confusion was sorted out through discussion as the group discussed the possibility of having such a product by weighing the positives and negatives (Dawson, 2000). This helped to ensure that the entire team was able to focus on the work on hand and was thereby able to develop a product which would serve the purpose. The team also conducted a simulation exercise where the possibility of having a multi purpose student card which would serve different purpose was discussed. The simulation exercised looked at the possibility of having such a card by carrying out extensive research to find out the possibility of having such a product. The exercise helped to discuss the different alternatives and to find out the manner in which the card could be linked to different alternatives (Bateman & Snell, 2004). The entire process helped to develop a product which would be beneficial and would thereby enable to ensure that the student card would serve different purposes. This process also helped in the generation of new idea which would further enhance the use of the student card and will thereby serve as a purpose of having a multi purpose student card which would help to increase the efficiency for the students Phase 4: Evaluation and Implementation The implementation phase helped in the generation of a multi purpose card student card which would allow the card to be used as a cash card, serve the purpose of paying for the parking fees of cars and so on. The brainstorming session also helped in the generation of new idea and provided the different alternatives which could be looked at. The brainstorming session helped to generate new idea like organic cigarette and parking aid system. The new ideas also looked towards increasing the efficiency and providing an alternative through which different purposes could be carried out and would help to improve the use of the entire system (Ahmad & Schroeder, 2003). The development of different alternatives and products like a multi purpose student card, organic cigarette and parking aid system brings forward the new products which can be developed. This will help to improve efficiency and will ensure that the product which is finally developed with improve the functioning. To find out which would be one of the best alternative the same idea has to be discussed at length so that the best one can be selected. This will require brainstorming session so that the idea is further discussed and the best alternative is selected. The three idea of having an organic cigarette or parking aid on ferry or multi purpose student card will help to serve different purpose as the two new idea which has been generated by the group and is having an organic cigarette or parking aid on ferry will also help to multiply the effectiveness in which the students is able to use the different services. Conclusion The report thereby shows the different experiences and subconscious mind which led to the development of a new idea. This has led towards finding out a product like a multi purpose student card which would improve the use of the student card for the students. This has thereby shown the different experiences and highlights the manner in which the overall use of card improves. This has thereby led to generation of an idea and evaluated the manner in which the idea was finally generated. The evaluation of the four phases will thereby help to understand the manner in which a service is finally developed and help to bring the required creativity in developing new products or services.
