The paper " American Attitudes about Immigration Policy" is a brilliant example of a term paper on social science. The country has one of the best policies on immigrants. An immigrant is an alien lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence. Such people are lawful permanent residents. An alien, on the other hand, is an individual who is not a citizen of the United States. The policy stipulates on the ways through which one may qualify to become an American citizen. It provides a platform for the reunion of the families by allowing the new immigrants who come to the states to get the opportunity to reunite with the immigrants who got admission to states earlier. There is either alien who is lawfully citizens of the U.S or those who unlawfully staying in America. The policy outlines the trends in immigration, legal permanent and temporary immigration, border security and the impact of the alien on the economic line.

The U.S. economy has a high demand for both skilled and unskilled labor more than what its education fraternity may not produce. Because of the inability of the United States to provide enough personnel for their industries, and the economic capability to absorb high tech professionals (scientists, mathematics, and engineers are expanding at an alarming rate making them always understaffed. The government formulates flexible immigration policies that are accommodative. Professionals from different parts of the world would take advantage of the favorable policies and go to America to seek for jobs. The new immigrants also come up with new ideas for performing the task. These immigrant scientists and engineers create new job opportunities.

The policy has a positive effect on the competition in the labor market. The United States is very much concern about the economic condition prevailing in the global market. Economic competitive is a debatable issue with almost everybody in the States. The immigrants especially the skilled labors bring about vibrant dynamicity in the country. China is the major competitor of the U.S. The government formulates these policies to dominate the global market share. Government through the policy framework encourages foreigners to venture to various technical industries.

Creative and critical thinking is an important tool in legislating and implementing the policies. The policy outlines categorically which people would get the entrant privilege to the United States. It invites the most innovative people to help them match the competitors in the economic market (Papademetriou & Sumption, 2011).

There is a worrying number of illegal immigrants in the US. The immigrant policy addresses the issue of these unlawful citizens’ because of their participation in illegal activities. Most immigrants work in various sectors of the economy at the expense of the permanent citizens (Wasem, 2013).

The debate on the increasing number of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. through its border continues to be contentious. In addition, there are divergent reactions to the status of aliens in the country. Some argue that the foreigners’ contribution to the economy is of tremendous effect. Another group of people feels that their rights to own certain jobs have been infringed. Because of the high demand for professionals in areas such as science, technology, engineering and math professionals, there is a necessity to consider immigration policy measures that would influence competitiveness in the U.S.
