1.2.1. Definition

According to Cheng (2009), best practices are actions that are done by an organization in order to remain competitive in the market while at the same time letting the clients and other stakeholders have the real value of their investments. The best practice is an effective way of delivering the desired positive outcomes with minimum problems or complications.

  • 1.2.2. Best Practice Development
  • Any organization that wishes to develop best practices must fulfill some important elements such as consistency, improving efficiency, improvement of standardization measures, and general improvement of product quality to enhance marketing (Morgan & Sonnino, 2008). For the best practice to be applied, it will be important for a country or an organization involved in the production of agricultural foods such as fruits and vegetables to assess both the external and the internal market to understand what is best in the market, or what can be improved. Organizations may employ different techniques to achieve the best practice and this may include thorough scrutiny of their products to ensure that they are free from infections such as bacterial infections that are common in fruits and vegetables.
  • The best practice is what has made Thailand one of the leading exporters of fruits and vegetables in the Asian region. This has been achieved through intensive research, the use of technology, and continuous learning in developing new farming techniques. The storage technologies used for storing Thai vegetables and fruits have added value to Thai agricultural products around the world.
  • 1.2.3. Project and Project Management
  • 1.2.3.1. Definition

A project is any activity that is carried out in order to achieve certain objectives that are aimed to satisfy the stakeholders. The objectives of a project must however be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and have a specific time frame to be achieved.

  • Project management involves the application of tools and techniques to accomplish the overall goals of a project. Close scrutiny is required to ensure a project runs within a set budget and that all the issues of best practices are applied especially when the project involves agricultural foods such as fruits and vegetables (FAO, 2009). The overall success of a project depends on the fine application of appropriate project management skills.
