Time Machine and Quote Introduction Wells uses Darwin’s theory of evolution in the book “Time Machine” to show how humankind degenerates because of falling away from civilized values. From the book, evolution presentation categorizes into physical, social, intellectual and artistic segments. Evolution from a general perspective is the gradual development process by which different types of organisms developed and diversified from a simple to a more complex form. The Time Traveller lectures on the fourth dimension to bring out a clear synopsis and overview of evolution. He explains how a cube exists both in space and in time referring to time as the fourth dimension. He argues that one should have the capability of moving about in the fourth dimension noting that humans constantly forward in time. Civilized Values and the indication of Lack of them The civilized category associating with the future has advanced clothing signified by the rich robes that the time traveler observes. In the future civilized era there will be bigger and well-established buildings as noted by the large buildings that the time traveler notices. The civilized humankind characterizes with intelligence and advancement in language. The evidence to this are the creatures that the time traveler encounters in the future who speak in a sweet and liquid tongue as he describes. Civilization comes with bravery and sense of safety feeling. Because of evolution the future humankind, the civilized have large eyes, wavy hairs and thin red lips. Civilization brings along advancement and development in terms of innovation. The advanced level of innovation and creativity is evident through the strange hieroglyphics present in the civilized creatures’ large buildings. The civilized society characterizes with advent communism. It is an indication of a free world where humankind owns properties. The humankind in the civilized society are lazy and less intelligent according to Wells. From a different perspective, lack of the civilization characteristics is evident through a number of practices. Sub standard buildings and dwelling places for the humankind is an indication of lack of civilization. The era and society whereby communication lacks eloquence and property ownership does not entirely lie on the humankind. Lack of civilization characterizes humankind with lesser level of intelligence and no innovations. Lesser level of intelligence through the surprising impression that the Time traveller expresses on the civilized society’s advanced items. The time traveller moves to the future and immediately loses his perceived leadership roles. He is thrown away from his time machine right in front of a large white Sphinx. The humankind evolved through civilization from a world venturing in the artifacts to a world involved in innovations of new stunning arts. The stunning arts surprised the time traveller in the future world that he explores. The humankind in an uncivilized society are comparatively more intelligent than the humankind in the civilization era. The mode of dressing in the uncivilized society is sub standard as compared to the advanced dressing code in the civilized society. Degeneration of Eloi into seemingly androgynous and characterless people Humanity through the gradual process of evolution evolved into Eloi on the surface and Morlocks underground. The time traveller formulates three theories addressing the degeneration of the Eloi people. The first theory asserts that the Eloi people are the lone descendants of humanity. The technological advancement that automated most services made the Eloi people to become stupid and lazy as the time traveller describes. Eloi belongs to the world of dystopia, a world that will go astray if certain trends keep on manifesting. The Traveller identifies capitalism as the origin of disunity between the Eloi and Morlocks. Evolution through to economic and political outfits where nation’s trade and industry are under the control of individuals marks the onset of Eloi degeneration. The control aims at benefiting and generating profits that benefit persons rather than the society as a whole. The time traveller loses his time machine in the midst of the Eloi people and suspects them of theft. The suspicion raised upon the Eloi indicates their generation to characterless people. The response the Eloi creatures grant the time traveller when he asks them to show him how to open pedestal’s panels indicates their degeneration. Degeneration of the Morlocks into Repulsive Cannibals The night traveller saves Weena from nearly drowning, she reveals critical information about the Morlocks. The time traveller in his attempt to recover his machine ventures into the Morlocks underground world. He narrowly escapes when seized by the Morlocks when the matches he was using to scare the Morlocks away run out. The time traveller sees the Morlocks eating a given type of meat, which he later discovers belong to the Eloi people. The act of eating or feeding on other humans’ flesh indicates the Morlocks degeneration into cannibals (Wells chapter 6). The manner in which they seized the time traveller indicates their repulsive nature. Both the Eloi and Morlocks are descendants of human ancestors hence naturally should lack cannibalism features. The time traveller fails to understand the nature of evolution that led the Morlocks to acquire cannibalism features. Evolution therefore does not pertain to physique alone rather the feeding and lifestyle as a whole. The Morlocks cannibalism has transformed the Eloi people’s lifestyle, as they must stay awake during the nights to avoid their predators. The night theory formulates an evolution theory addressing the societal Marxism. The looming class warfare between the humans and contradicting the communism character the associates with the societies. How the narrator conveys optimism for the future of humankind With advancement into the future, Weena and the time traveller locates the palace of Green Porcelain. However much it appears ruined they are able to locate protective and defensive appliances that help them evade the Morlocks cannibalism acts. The experience is an indication of how in the future human will resort to the initial ways of life to overcome the Marxism and warfare. There are vegetation that the time traveller discovers covering the earth around the unmoving sun (Wells chapter 8). The vegetation signifies the productivity of the earth’s land after the given war period. He foresees an earth inhabited by crabs and no humankind living on it. The time traveller formulates a theory asserting that the universe will eventually decay into a state of motionless uniformity. The humankind evolution ongoing will reach an ultimate state when everything will assume a stable state. How the Eloi should live The Eloi people should live a life of hard labor rather than overreliance on the automated systems to complete tasks. The time traveller through his theories believes that lazy life without hard labor marked beginning of indolence to humankind. The time traveller’s second theory asserts that the Eloi people led an easy life with the Morlocks as their slaves. The slavery life evolved to transform the slaves into master’s predators. The Eloi should lead a life without subjecting any humankind to slavery. The free world will aid enhancement of communism and togetherness. The life free from slavery will eliminate the time traveller’s third theory of Morlocks revenge against the Eloi people. Without revenge, intents the world will be without wars hence the Eloi people will lead a peaceful life. Conclusion Civilized value of eloquence in communication helps in making socialization effective and stronger. The art of communication rids off the chances of communal and kind wars similar to the one witnessed between Eloi and Morlocks people. Civilized values lead to creativity and innovations that help in making life easier. Creativity and innovation help the world in exploring and creating more opportunities that aim towards making life more comfortable. Works Cited Wells, Herbert. The Time Machine.
