It will present some detailed facts regarding the search engines concepts. Nowadays search engine has turned out to be a part of individual’s life. We have a lot of facilities through this internet service. This paper will present how these search engines make money and their different way of earning. Next it will present a comparison among the three most popular and highly used search engines: Google, Yahoo and MSN. How do Search Engines Work? This section will interrogates how the search engines work for facilitating the people. The Search engines do not actually explore the World-Wide-Web straightly. Every search engine searches a very huge database of internet web pages that it has produced and cached. When we make use of a search engine at that time: we are searching a fairly decayed copy of the actual web page (Kenneth, 1998). When we click on the selected links presented on the search engines search results page, at that time we recover the present and real version of the web page. Type of searches on the Search Engines I have researched and gathered few type of searching methods used by different search engines. These are given below [3]: Keyword Searching Refining Your Search Relevancy Ranking Meta Tags In the keyword based searching we search for our query by giving the search engine an exacting keyword or idiom. This is most accepted and broadly used type of searching. Next we have the refining based or some time name as advanced search [3]. In advanced search we search our requisite data by giving more details regarding that data, like its file time its alternative name or meaning. This is more targeted and refined search techniques that are used to avoid un-necessary details [3]. Next is the Relevancy Ranking search technique in which the majority of the search engines retrieve the searched outcomes with assurance or some relevancy rankings. Or we can say that they record the hits on that topic that we are searching and according to that information they retrieve the results those match to our query [3].   In the Meta Tags searching practice a number of search engines are at this time indexing Web pages by means of the meta-tags. This means that the web page author would be able to have an extent of pressure above which query are utilized to index the web-document, and still in the explanation of the web-document that comes into view when it approaches up as a search-engine search hit [3]. How search engines make money It is a fact that the websites design is worthless if websites status on search engines is not superior. Each search engine has its own standard of ranking websites and it is noticeable from the information that when we do a search on Google or MSN or some other search-engines their outcomes differ. This ranking is given by the search engine company by taking the payment from a website who wants a high status on the search engine results1. Top Search Engines in General In this section I will present the fact how a search engine turns out to be a top search engine. Everyone surfing the website with the help of search engines for information retrieval, really know that how search engines are effective in case when we did not know the website definite address [1]. We also see that the some search engines work slowly and some work very fast, some include massive database of sites and some have some different qualities. Which search engine is more better that other? The answer of this question can be given through the following given parameters [5]. 1. Size (the amount of websites or web pages indexed) 2. Speed (how speedy the search engine would be able to place the information that is searched or requested) 3. Relevance (how various information hits are associated to the real purpose of the web search) 4. Update rate (how speedily and efficiently the innovative information is accessible on the search engines database) By analyzing these features cooperatively we can speak out that particular search engine is better than other. The top rating of the year 2008 provides the following results regarding the most usage and better functionality2: Google—42.7%. Yahoo!—28%. MSN—13.2%. AOL—7.6%. Ask—5.9%. Search Engines and the Future The progress in this field is going to make this field more users oriented. Nowadays we use keyword based searching methods, but in the near future we are projected to have more customized and user interest based web searching. Google trying to develop a search engine that gathers your every day search patterns, by this way they will build up a database that is based on your benefit and daily searching patterns. In this way we would have better and targeted consequences that would not include the irrelevant information. The accomplishment of the artificial intelligence in this field is also making the whole set-up more competent. In the near future we would not have a keyword based search option, in its place we would have meaning based searching, means the search engine also searches for the different meaning of the word or phrase that we are going to search [2]. Comparison of Search Engines In this section I will present a detailed analysis of the three different Search Engines those are Google, Yahoo and MSN. In this scenario I will analyze different factors like their market share, database size, retrieval time etc. Google: built-in in September of 1998. Google has integrated the natural search results: that procedure is known as Googlebot. Yahoo was established in year in 1994, and started on a theme that that is human edited directory. Yahoo has used the technology of the Inktomi that is rapid and resultant from the Altavista search engine technologies. MSN was initiated in the in 2005 by the Microsoft, its majority results are offered by its search engine spider that is acknowledged as MSNBOT [2]. I have tried to touch each aspect of this search engines. I have discussed their way of working, their searching style, top search engines and future of this field. In the last section I have developed a comparison table for the three well known search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN). In this comparison I have presented the basic parameters of efficiency.
