Extract of sample "Obesity in the Latino Community"

"Obesity in the Latino Community" is an outstanding example of a paper on the respiratory system.

The number of obesity problems has been increasing at a rapid pace in Latino communities (Alban (2009). Many academicians and researchers blame the lack of economic and social awareness behind this cause, and many have introduced several theoretical and practical frameworks. The assignment aims at developing a program addressing the obesity problems amongst the children aged 12-17 in the Latino community.

Mission

The mission of the program is to create awareness amongst children aged 12-17 in the Latino community through effecting guidance and education.

Geographic Area Served- City-wide (Mainly in and around Los Angeles)

Population Served- Children aged 12-17 facing obesity problems

Program Summary

The program aims at creating awareness amongst the Latino children aged 12- 17 through effective education and guidance. The steps taken to prevent obesity include effective counseling and group interaction, along with assessing the diet regimen. The nutritional analysis would further help in analyzing the role of food intake in obesity issues.

Time Frame- November 10, 2011- January 10, 2011

Statement of the Community Problem

Lynelle Korte (2009) of Elsevier Health Sciences stated that Hispanic children in the US at greater risk for obesity than other ethnic/racial groups. These children do not have access to better education and health services that act as a basic problem behind the rise of obesity in this community. Moreover, children lack appropriate knowledge and motivation that further aggravates the problem. The obesity problem can be considered as a serious threat for the US, considering the growing number of Latino children in the country.

Analysis of the Program

The program would be implemented by coordinating with the local health care service centers along with seeking help from doctors and experts to volunteer their services. The program would address key issues behind the obesity problem and a critical analysis of the diet and nutrition of children. This would be followed by the sharing of ideas and information, along with offering feedback and further assistance.

Program Vision, Mission, and Objectives

The program vision is to increase the participation of Latino children aged 12-17 in sharing their obesity problems along with guiding and motivating them to tackle the issue. The mission of the program is to eliminate barriers of boundaries and access through effective reach, education, and guidance. The objectives of the program include:

  • To increase awareness of obesity issues along with offering solutions
  • To offer motivation and guidance in an effective manner
  • To keep a tab on diet regimen along with offering the right diet plan

Strategies for Intervention

The program activities will take place in four phases, including community resource mapping, training and assistance, analysis of outcomes, and information dissemination.

Program Evaluation

The program would continue for three months, and data and information would be analyzed. If the program achieves the aim and objectives, it would be considered as a success with the aim of continuous improvement through monthly assessments.

Financial Sustainability

The role of local health care communities and volunteers is of great importance, and financial sustainability would be achieved through their cooperation and involvement.
