Extract of sample "Health Promotion: Planning and Strategies"

"Health Promotion: Planning and Strategies" is a great example of a paper on the health system. Health promotion stands out to be a network of activities that calls for a communal commitment. Nurses play a central role in mobilizing society to embrace positive culture towards health, nutrition, and wellness with respect to various methods of prevention (Green & Tones, 2010). In that respect, it is the duty of the government, non-government organizations, various health sector stakeholders, and the common man to take the initiative of spreading the relevant information pertaining to health. Health promotion, therefore, refers to the attempts by the members of the society to inform, remind, and encourage each on the importance of health and the various infections, remedial measures, and nursing care.

Nursing is a profession that involves more than the prescription and administration of drugs. This is to say that it requires interactive skills as healing and recovery demands encouragement. It is therefore imperative that the nurses also take initiative to make members of the society understand various health risks and the subsequent consequences of the actions people take regarding their physical health wellbeing (Green & Tones, 2010). It is also worth noting that some spirituality is important to boost service delivery among nurses amidst the pressure that characterizes their job. Some of the prioritized roles of health promotion include improved social responsibility, increase the community’s capacity, and empower the people. There is also the expansion of partnerships with other stakeholders for health promotion besides increased investment for health development. Infrastructure is also key to the good health sector in which health promotion can help securely.

Nursing as the backbone of the healthcare sector has been very instrumental in the evolution of health promotion. Top in this list is the cardinal role that the nurses take in offering advisory services to the clients on health-related issues. The evidence required in legal suits pertaining to some health malpractices on patients or by the clients has been helpful in creating awareness on the consequences of some uncensored health risks (Holzemer, 2012). Nursing has been backed up with a research study that provides some information that is dissipated to the community thereby enhancing community health education. The contemporary nursing syllabus has been advocating for mandatory communication skills which are fundamental for effective healthcare promotional skills.

Some of the health promotion methods of implementation that have been adopted include syllabus reformulation to make health promotion campaign part of the attachment. It has also been proposed that spiritual concept is introduced as a tradition among the nurses besides lessons in communication skills.

Different health promotion methods have been proposed by scholars although they have varied applications. There is the primary method that is proactive in the sense that it focuses on preventing any infection or injury on an individual who is healthy and well (Talbot & Verinder, 2009). On the other hand, the secondary method is reactive in the sense that it is post-infection or injury. The tertiary prevention method is equally significant due to the role it plays in helping people to manage complicated long term or terminal illnesses such as cancer, heart diseases, or diabetes.

Both primary and tertiary promotional methods stand out to protect the body from deterioration while secondary is helpful in restoring the healthy status of the body. Primary and secondary prevention methods are relatively close, for instance, primary prevention of stroke also sums up to secondary prevention of hypertension. It is worth noting that tertiary prevention is not limited to taking only drugs but it extends to acts like the physical exercise of the body and nutritional balance. This helps in the control of hypertension and heart-related complications.
