Extract of sample "The Issue of Overweight Children"

"The Issue of Overweight Children" is an excellent example of a paper on child development.
Obesity is one of the health factors that continue to confront people of all ages. However, children have been found to be some of the worse victims of obesity. This is not to say that there are more children with obesity than people of other age groups but that when children become affected by obesity, the impact and implications are great. If for nothing at all, a child with an untreated case of obesity would have a lot of years ahead of him or her to battle this problem. It is in light of this that the present study was set up as a means of identifying some of the best ways of dealing with obesity in children. The approach to the problem was by first finding a theory of obesity in children that can best address the problem of obesity as it exists among the population that the researcher was dealing with. In light of this, the multi-dimensional theory of obesity in children was selected. This theory is built on the basis that the best way to deal with cases of obesity in children is to see the causes of obesity as varying and their solutions as well. Data were collected using both qualitative and quantitative methods whereby a sample size was developed made up of children with various forms of obesity. An individualized interventional solution was devised, which resulted in the fact that most of the children could have personal solutions that address their problems being emitted out to them.

Problem Statement

A lot of attempts have been made by health specialists to have the problem of obesity in children under check. However, the problem continues to persist regardless of the fact that new interventions are introduced each day (Wilkins, 2008). This is a problem that calls for a pragmatic approach to ensuring that a one-stop intervention that addresses the problem holistically can be devised. If obesity in children is not addressed immediately, these children are going to live with obesity for very long periods in their lives and the repercussions would be devastating as they grow. This is the basis upon which the current research is necessary and deemed as highly timely in addressing a current problem that demands an immediate solution.

Conclusion

The battle against obesity in children may be quite difficult but it is not something that cannot be overcome as the findings of the study have just shown. First of all, health practitioners have been advocated the need for them to be proactive and versatile in their approaches towards obesity in children if they really want to achieve results. At best, this versatility should include the need to approach each case of obesity in one child differently from the other. The study has shown that the effects that come with obesity in children are widespread and so the search for intervention ought to be followed to the latter. Depending on a child’s case, nurses have the opportunity of using either a social approach, medicinal approach, dietary approach, or psychological approach, depending on the variables available to each child who is receiving care and solution for a case of obesity. If the approaches are combined at any time, the resulting factor would be that children will be denied the privilege of having the very core approach that addresses their needs and thus the multidimensional theory to obesity in children.
