Extract of sample "Issues Affecting the Future of Health Care"

"Issues Affecting the Future of Health Care" is a great example of a paper on the health system. The biomedical model refers to health “as the absence of illness or disease” (Shi & Singh, 2014, p. 41). The definition implies that an individual experiences optimum health when they do not have any symptoms of illness, thus, no need for medical attention. This notion ignores the prevention, and promotion of health in the United States. Consequent to this, the future of healthcare delivery faces a significant problem as discussed in the following essay.

Health Prevention and Promotion

Health prevention and promotion is the most significant issue to future health because of its beneficial effects on health. Taking preventive measures on health issues allows individuals to keep from falling ill regularly. It also minimizes the degree of risk involved when a person falls sick as the individual develops a stronger immunity. On the other hand, individuals who do not take measures to prevent themselves from diseases, thus promoting their health cause diverse problems to healthcare delivery.

In the United States, for example, most people adopt a lifestyle that does not give satisfactory health benefits. Consequently, they are exposed to chronic diseases. Other diseases may be complex to treat, persist for a long period, and may even shorten life. Additionally, treating such illnesses can be quite expensive. A lifestyle of smoking, for example, leads to several deaths in the United States. It multiplies the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer of the lung, and chronic lung disease (Shi & Singh, 2014, p. 44). Such complications make the delivery of healthcare a challenge, as the root cause of the problem remains unchanged. Consequently, encouraging such individuals to seek preventive health care can reduce the challenges of healthcare delivery.

Importance of Health Prevention and Promotion

Seeking the attention of a primary care physician yields multiple benefits for an individual. First, the regular visits to the doctor enable the professional to detect symptoms that a normal person cannot identify easily. This guards against chronic diseases and allows individuals to take appropriate action on time. Annual exams also promote ones’ health as the physician advises on healthy lifestyles that promote healthy living, which reduces special care.

Impact on the Delivery of Healthcare

Diseases discovered at an advanced level pose greater challenges, compared to those discovered at an early age. Higher costs associated with advanced illness. The expense may hinder the patients from accessing treatment if they cannot afford to cater for the expenses. Consequent to this, the individual may face a life-threatening issue, leading to death.  Additionally, some advanced ailments may not have medical solutions, thus, making delivery of healthcare impossible.

Recommendations

The healthcare industry should advocate for preventive health in the United States. It should educate the citizens of the importance of this care. More to this, insurance companies should promote the selection of a primary care physician to those who register with them. The service should also be provided at a friendly rate to attract more people to the scheme.

Conclusion

In conclusion, any healthcare delivery system should consider the overall health of the people. Treating them when they fall sick complicates the delivery process. It also leads to negative consequences that prevention could avert. Therefore, given the importance of health, the United States should put more emphasis on promoting the health of its citizens.
