Consumer Health Introduction Consumer Health is the intelligent selection of consumer products, organizations concerned with the control of these products and services. It involves realities and understanding that enables people to make the right decisions required in the purchase particular health materials. Undesirably, it has the meaning of evading unrealistic conclusions created upon dishonesty, giving out wrong information, or any other factor that is consumer unfriendly. This paper takes a critical look on three articles to give a deeper insight of what entails consumer health. First Article My first article of discussion is Consumer Health Informatics (CHI) by Lewis Deborah and her Co-authors. This article acts as an intermediary between patients who are consumers and health officials, or any other aspect related to health. CHI comprises of the skills that are concentrated on patients as the major users of health information. CHI is also the subdivision of medical informatics that analyses patients ’requirements for information, and looking on how to make the required information available to the consumers (Lewis et. al., 2007). CHI is so much related to other careers such as, public health, health promotion, health education, nursing informatics, library science, and is the most challenging and rapidly growing career in medical informatics and making it better for the health care information. This article mainly aims at both consumers or patients and the doctors or health officials since it helps to minimize the gap between them. This article relates to consumer health in the following ways: First, CHI provides the necessary skills that can be used to cure and treat patients as the major users of health information. It also analyses the patients’ requirements for any new information and providing the possibility of the availability of the same new information to the consumers (Lewis et. al., 2007). Since it is also related to other disciplines in the medical field, it can be said that it is related to consumer health since all that relationship ends at the final consumer who is the patient. CHI is supported by scientific findings since it is related to other disciplines in the health sector such as nursing, which is also related to scientific findings. If I have a chance to meet with the authors of this article, I would ask them three main questions, which include; first, I would ask them why they centered this article on both the consumers and the health officials? Second, I would ask them why they decided to write on CHI, but not any other topic. Finally, I would ask why they saw it important to produce such an article. All the three questions would help since I know the importance of this article, and I will use it to improve on the consumer health programs. I would like to perform further study on the types of the skills that are being concentrated on the patients as the major users of information. Finally, I would recommend that CHI education be offered in every health institution. Second Article My second article comes from consumer and patient health information section (CAPHIS). It is known as Merk Manual of Medical Information-3rd Home Edition” by Robert Porter. This article provides almost all the information a physician require to diagnose and treat patients, and contain some additional information on over-the-counter drugs, composition and examination, and a detailed information about infections and their causes and how they can be treated (Porter, 2009). This article primarily focuses on consumers and the patients since it provides all the sections of health information that is necessary for the treatment of any kind of infections that may affect the patients. I chose this article because I found it necessary that it is related to my topic of discussion. The article is related to consumer health in the following ways. First, it provides the physician or doctor with all the requirements that they may need to help in treating and caring of the patients. It also gives the details of over-the-counter that will help the doctors know how and where to get the prescribed drugs to the patients (Porter, 2009). It also benefits the patients since all their diseases and infections will be attended to with greater hopes since the article provides detailed information about infections and their causes and how they can be treated. The article is supported by the scientific findings since it provides additional and much detailed information about infections and their causes and how they can generally be treated. I would ask Porter three main questions to know his main intention and aim of writing the article. The three questions will include; I will ask him why he centered the article to patients and consumers, second, I would ask him why he saw it important to produce the article, and finally, I would ask him why he decided to name it “consumer and patient health information section”. All these three questions will be important in that they will help improve the consumer health program in general. I will use it to conduct my future research on the topic of over-the-counter drugs since I would mostly be interested in knowing much about that topic an finally I would recommend that this article to be distributed widely as possible so that most people can have a chance to access it. Third Article The third article is Essentials Concepts for Healthy Living by Sandra Alters and Wendy Schiff. This article provides students with perfect and brief introduction to the most modern scientific and medical examination in individual health. This article improves the student’s understanding of their personal needs in health and offers the scientific experience that is important for the student’s critical thinking on the dependability of health-associated information that they may come upon in the media (Alters & Schiff, 2014). This is just because of the exclusiveness of the article in concentrating on the serious thinking and the inquiry of health-related conducts and outlooks. This article also provides the present statistics on the inclusive collection of health and wellness subjects and matters. It also has its own workbook for critical thinking that provides the students with easy time to asses and improves their health-related conducts and outlooks. This article primarily focuses on students who are studying healthcare related courses since almost every part of this article relates to enhancing the students’ life. It also aims at improving the students understanding of their own personal needs in health and also offers the scientific know-how that is needed by the students for the critical thinking (Alters & Schiff, 2014). Therefore, its main purpose is to assist the students in their personal studies that are related to health issues. The article is related to consumer health since it majorly provides the students with the technical knowledge and experiences on how they will deal with patients once they are out of college. It also makes the students be familiar with the hospital environment and the behaviors of and attitudes of the different types of patients. The article also relates to consumer health since it helps the students once they become real doctors on how to think critically on certain infections and diseases that are hard to cure or those that constantly mutate. Therefore, they will be able to provide solutions to any kind of problem that the patients may come up with. Additionally, the article is also related to consumer health since it provides the latest statistics and collection of modern drugs that can be subscribed to the consumers who are the patients. I majorly chose this article because it diversifies from the students who later are to become doctors, to the patients who are the final consumers and eventually talks about consumer health. This Article is actually supported by scientific findings as evidenced by the fact that it gives the students perfect and brief introduction to the most modern scientific and medical examination in individual health. To my own view I would ask the authors of the article three main questions so that I would be much interested in knowing much about the article. These questions include; first, I would ask him why he focused the article mainly to the students studying medical health and not any other groups, secondly, I would ask them why they decided to write the article, and finally I would ask them if there is any video recording of the article. The questions would be much important if well answered since they will generally help in any aspect of improving consumer health. I would like to conduct my future research on the statistics and collection of modern drugs, which is a topic that is related to this article.
