"Community-Based Substance Abuse Treatment Programs" is an engrossing example of a paper on addiction. This paper looks at two program social detoxification ASAM Level III.2-D and clinically managed low-intensity residential care - adult ASAM level III.1. in North Dakota (North Dakota Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health & Substance Abuse, 2014). Detoxification refers to the practice of interrupting the force of obsessive use in a person that has been diagnosed with substance abuse. Furthermore, it refers to the process of recovery from the influence of drugs such as alcohol, cigarettes, morphine, and cocaine. It also refers to the treatment that is necessary for the management of withdrawal symptoms from drugs and facilitates recovery from its effects (Fisher and Roget, 2009). This program provides an around the clock medical back-up to patients of drug abuse. This program aims at providing competent staff that helps the patients to deal with complications with alcohol and drug abuse. The program ensures the provision of a positive and quite environment (North Dakota Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health & Substance Abuse, 2014). The program aims at using this period of detoxification to prepare patients to proceed to a different level of care. Finally, this program ensures that the patient needs additional care due to the chronic nature of addiction and dependence.

The program aims at working with local health providers to ensure that emergency care is available when needed (Fisher and Roget, 2009). The program focuses on the establishment of a procedure that ensures that medical procedures are incorporated into the treatment process. It also provides consultation for individuals with cognitive, behavioral, emotional and biomedical problems (North Dakota Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health & Substance Abuse, 2014). It offers services including staff interaction, close observation and the important nutritional and fluid components. Finally, it outlines a defined policy for care, admission, discharge and client transfer.

The clinically managed low-intensity residential care - adult ASAM level III.1 is a program that is aimed towards the provision of a therapeutic environment by patients. This focuses on preventing relapse, facilitating personal responsibility, improving emotional functioning and applying the recovery skills (Fisher and Roget, 2009). The program offers low treatment to its patients approximately five hours per week (North Dakota Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health & Substance Abuse, 2014). The program provides a drug-free, comfortable and safe environment. It provides patients with meals that meet the stipulated nutritional requirements. It provides competent staff throughout the day to ensure that patients get quality care at all times. The program keeps a clear record of the patient’s progress and the activities that are involved in the program.

The programs aim at helping patients structure their lives by organizing their daily activities. Secondly, it focuses on improving patients’ social skill development. Thirdly, the program aims towards the provision of informational and educational programming to promote client recovery (North Dakota Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health & Substance Abuse, 2014). Finally, the program organizes support group meetings and transports individuals to the meeting venues. In my opinion, these programs are effective in offering treatment to individuals with drug addiction. This can be observed from their functions, goals, and objectives.
