Extract of sample "Hygiene Compliance in Health Care"

"Hygiene Compliance in Health Care" is an engrossing example of a paper on the health system. Hygiene is a fundamental feature that contributes to the quality of health services in health facilities. Health practitioners must, therefore, uphold high standards of hygiene and keep their working environment both clean and safe. In doing this, nurses and doctors among other practitioners must uphold particular safety and hygiene standards that ensure that the health facilities are habitable. Among the importance of keeping a hygienic health facility is the fact that cleanliness curtails the prevalence of numerous water and airborne diseases. Such diseases as cholera and typhoid are waterborne (Barash, 2009). They, therefore, thrive in less hygienic places. Health facilities receive patients with such diseases on a daily basis, lack of adequate hygiene in the facilities thus increases the chances of such diseases spreading thus resulting in the infection of both the health practitioners and other patients who were not suffering from such.

Research objectives

The following research thus investigates the importance of keeping a health facility clean ad hygienic. Additionally, it discusses the numerous ways of keeping a health facility clean and hygienic thus, a conducive working environment, one in which the environment is not conducive for the spread and prevalence of secondary infections. As such, the objectives of the research are

  1. To discuss the ways of keeping a health facility clean
  2. To discuss the importance of maintaining and hygienic and safe health facility

Health facilities just like any other institution operate on specific policies that guide the operations of the personnel. This implies that the management of the health facilities must, therefore, develop appropriate policies that will uphold the importance of keeping such facilities clean and safe. Among such policies are codes of conduct that influence the relationship between the health practitioners in the health facility and the patients. The safety of such a relationship is paramount in order to curb instances of cross-infection (Ebbing, 2010). The health facility must, for example, provide its employees with adequate protective gear in order to prevent the contamination of the resources at the health facility. Such basic policies ensure that the health facilities are both safe and clean.

The interaction among patients is yet another fundamental feature that requires effective management in health facilities since such is likely to present the patient with substantial risks of cross infections. The management of the health facility must have adequate quarantine facilities in order to provide risky patients with effective holding away from other patients not suffering from such diseases (World Health Organization, 2009). This way, the facility curtails the spread of such dangerous diseases. Cleanliness also espouses the cleaning of the facilities. A health facility must remain clean with the facility offering effective bedpan services for immobile patients and adequate toiletries. Washing the bedsheets among other resources of the facility and disinfecting the surgical equipment is paramount hygienic procedures that ensure that the facility is hygienic and a conducive working environment.

In retrospect, the research investigates the importance of cleanliness in health facilities. In doing this, it discusses the above issues alongside many others with the view of meeting the specific research objectives outlined earlier.
