"4 Year Old with Crusted Lesions on Face" is a perfect example of a paper on child development. There are a number of factors and causes that may result in younger children such as the 4-year-old in the case to develop lesions on the face. What is always important however has to do with the right form of diagnosis that makes it possible to tell the exact reason for the development of the lesions and the variable health outcomes that the lesions may come with (quote). From the case where it is identified that the crusted lesions on the face of the 4-year-old started as small vesicles on a small erythematous macular area before starting to spread to other parts of the face, the most immediate indication that is developed is that this is a case of the secondary lesion. The most indicative notation with the patient’s situation has to do with the fact that there are crusts that have been resulted as part of the lesions. Meanwhile, a quote (year) mentioned that secondary lesions evolve from primary lesions, which in the case of the patient can be said to be the earlier symptoms that were seen two days ago but were not attended to. This notwithstanding, there are moments that the cause of secondary lesions is due to external factors that are not attributable to any primary lesions. Such external factors that may give rise to the secondary lesions include trauma, scratching, or infection. But because the case of the 4-year-old patient is rightly linked with small vesicles on a small erythematous macular area first showing up, it is more suspected to have been developed from a primary lesion.

From the background given on the crusted lesions on the face of the patient, it would be noted that one of the very first approaches to differential diagnosis would be to clearly identify the type of lesion and its cause. This is because the aim of differential diagnosis is to ensure that the right and most accurate form of diagnosis is performed when other similar or multiple alternatives prevail. In the current circumstance where there has been crusting associated with the lesions, a number of resulting factors may be possible. Commonly, quote (year) indicated that crusting comes about due to the drying of plasma or exudates on the skin. Whiles diagnosing the situation in the patient, a very important factor to realize is the need to differentiate the symptoms and outlook of the disease from scaling.

This is because crusting and scaling have often been confused to be the same or interchangeable conditions but this is not the situation. To be successful with this, the following procedures must be followed as part of the differential diagnosis. In the first place, evidence of pruritis must be looked out for. Very commonly, such evidence of pruritis may best be determined or identified by the parent of the patient. Parents must therefore be asked if they have made notice of any forms of scratching or rubbing from the patient over the past few days. Quote (year) noted that establishing the evidence of pruritis gives a huge leap into looking out for other forms of diagnostic indications. To be accurate with the diagnosis, the parent should be able to tell if the scratching, itching, or rubbing is not a result of drug reaction, food allergy, or previously diagnosed cancer.
