"The Role of Performance Appraisal System in the Delivery of Health Care Services" is a well-written example of a paper on the health system.
The performance appraisal system is important in the management of the employees and determining their strengths and weaknesses in the delivery of health care services. The payoff for performance appraisal is the improved job performance by the nurses at the workplace. Performance appraisal at the same time provides information on the various levels of competences among the health care workers (Nies et al., 2010). By so doing, the evaluation provides with information used in the rewarding of the hardworking nurses and noticing their hard work. By noticing and rewarding the hard-working nurses, they get motivated o work even other for the fact that, with better performance, they receive better treatment than the average colleagues.

More importantly, the performance appraisals determine the training needs of the nurses at the workplace. The provision of training to the nurses in the areas where they are not good at acts as a source of motivation to the nurses, it also increases the economic value of the nurses and the level of health care provision. Performance appraisal increases efficiency, the morale to do their work and most importantly reduced turnover rates of the nurses (Campbell, P. 2013).

The major decisions made in the health care facility are pre-determined by the use of a well-documented performance appraisal. One of the major decisions affected by the performance appraisals includes job structuring; the data provided on the nature of work and the way it is done, provide the management with the limelight on the ways of making it better. Hence with that knowledge, the management is in a better position of coming up with a better structure of the job that befits the various nurses concerning their competencies (Logan & Angel, 2011).

Moreover, the decision-making on promotion solely depends on the improved performance of the workers, better competences and the determination put in place by the nurses in whatever they do. In a bid to determining the level of commitment to give room for promotion at the workplace, the performance appraisals provide the much-needed information for this purpose. The disciplinary actions are determined from the performance appraisals. By utilization of the well-documented performance appraisal, the disciplinary actions taken on the underperforming nurses due to negligence are backed up by the evidence showing that. The performance appraisal provides fairness and justice in the punishment to the workers going astray from the organization's core code of conduct within the institution (Draper, 2012).

The health care system does not give room for incompetent personnel to handle the patients because mismanagement can be detrimental to the patient prognosis. Therefore having competent people at the workstations is the only options to curbing the mismanagement of the patients. To have competent people at work, the performance appraisals have proved to be a major tool that predetermines the levels of competencies among various workers in various organizations. As said earlier, the performance appraisals use is not for ejecting the less competent workers but identify the training needs to put them at par with the organization's requirement on the level of service provision (Draper, 2012).

Concisely, the performance appraisal has more advantages in the management of the health-care service provision. Despite the fact that the process is tedious and expensive, it is the only sure way of predetermining the safety of the patients on the hands of the health care providers. Therefore, the performance appraisal has to be upheld and used well in the health care provides evaluation.
