"Questions on Patient Care" is a wonderful example of a paper on care. Many issues and questions occur throughout patient care. Among these issues, questions are some common ones regarding the clinical process. These are termed as ‘Background Questions’. The other one is termed as ‘Foreground Questions’. Such questions are designed to study the two most effective interference for improving patient care and outcome. For both, the questions healthcare professionals can adopt the PICOT format. This paper will formulate the questions on the PICO format, for the given two clinical scenarios.

PICOT is basically a contraction for the medical care questions. It helps individuals to remember the key fundamentals of a well-centered question. The question formulated on the PICO format address what type of the key problem of the patient, what treatment is most appropriate for him in your perspective, any alternative treatment for the patient, and what will be the results. To further elaborate PICO, here is the full form. P: Patient/population, I: Intervention, C: Comparison, O: Outcome, T: Time. Patient, intervention, comparison, and the outcome are the essential factors for the formulation of the question, while time is not always necessary (Stillwell, Fineout-Overholt, and Melnyk).

Scenario 1:

In this given scenario, the hospice patients are the population or patient simply (P). The intervention is the family members of the hospice patients (I). The Comparison is your zero experience within a similar field or hospice patients (C).  The outcome is to provide quality care to these patients (O). Keeping these factors in mind, we will design a PICO question that will further study the EBP step by step.

The designed question on the PICO format for scenario 1 will be:

“If you are placed in hospice care (P), and the family members of the patients are also reserved (I) while you have zero experience in the field (C) what should one be appointed in order to improvise the quality of the care provided to these patients (O). “

Scenario 2:

In this given scenario, dementia patients are the population of patients (P). The intervention in this case is the aggressiveness of the patients (I). While you’re past experience regarding dementia patients and them holding baby dolls is the comparison (C). Using this experience you want to assure that if this would be suitable to treat these patients will be the outcome (O). Following the same format and the factors of PICO in mind, a question will be structured for this scenario as well.

The questioned structured on the PICO format for scenario 2 is:

“The dementia patients (P) and their aggressiveness (I) is becoming difficult for the nurse, if using the past experience with these patients holding baby dolls (C), will be appropriate to treat these patients (O).”

Once both the questions are designed following the PICO method, the next step is searching for evidence in the EBP process. However, for both of the given scenarios that are scenarios 1 and 2, the factor of time (T) was not essential.
