      Reverby says that nursing education is overcrowded, unstandardized, and disordered. This results in low educational standards.Olson also says that nursing education lacks standardization of the entrance requirements. These two people share similar views on nursing education

     Olson says that the St. Lukes training program did not emphasize the religious ideas of saintly nursing. St Luke valued strong-willed and motivated women.  The women are not portrayed as weak and submissive prone to exploitation by the hospital's administration and physicians. He argues that caring alone cannot explain the nature of nursing. Reverby describes a good nurse to be caring, submissive, and loving.

     The professionalization framework argued for the schools “Ordinariness” (Olson, 7). There was free entry to the profession without standardized qualifications. The significance of the framework to history is that many nurses were trained since the profession did not require any standardized qualification. I do not agree with his thesis. This is because for professionalism to be achieved there must be standards. They say that a greater demand for nurses began in the early 20th century. They also say that at that time in history, religious influence led to problems in achieving professionalism. In their analysis, Reverby fall under the people who view nursing as a craft and not a profession. This s is because they challenged caring and valued experience, skills, occupational loyalty and should be "practice generated and driven knowledge" (Olson, 149).

Question 5

Based on Reverby’s work, she says that nursing is wedded to womanhood. She also says that female nurses have the duty to care for others and also the right to control and define the nursing activity. In Olson's view, nursing is women’s work requiring strong-willed and motivated women. In this sense, accepted stereotypes that attributed strength and skilled only to men were challenged. Olson was anti-women, this is because women naturally do not have the physical strength and tend to be emotional.
