Extract of sample "Registered Nurse Professional Development of Self and Others"

"Registered Nurse Professional Development of Self and Others" is a great example of a paper on care. To achieve twenty hours of continuing nursing professional development in my first year of practice as a registered nurse, I would use the SMART tool to prepare a professional development plan. This would help me ensure that the professional development goals that I set are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound. As such, I would allocate at least five hours to attending relevant workshops and conferences so as to be informed of topical issues in the practice of nursing.  I would dedicate at least eight hours to in-service education in order to update my knowledge of nursing and acquaint myself with knowledge on emerging trends (Jasper et. al. 53).

Reflections on self-assessment and peer-feedback would take at least three hours of my twenty-hour plan to help make the best of them and help devise ways of responding to them. I would dedicate two hours to evaluating and assessing my progress in order to ensure that I remain in line with my professional development goals. The last two hours of my continuous professional development plan would go to recording and reading the experiences I get from all these activities and events. Recording and reading these experiences would help prepare for a continuous professional development audit (Jasper et. al. 54).

To contribute to the development of others, I would ensure that I convey my feedback towards them in a caring and objective way. I would seek to undertake self-directed research from different sources in order to help capture best practices and emergent issues in nursing and share the information with other nurses. I would propose and emphasize to be holding regular meetings in my workplace in order to give myself and other nurses a chance to discuss current issues in both the workplace and beyond. I would ensure that I invite my colleagues to different professional activities and events.  I would engage my colleagues in reviewing and discussing case studies especially the encountered during daily activities. I would dedicate myself to orienting new nurses who join my workplace (Jasper et. al. 55).

To contribute to the development of my colleagues I would respect my colleagues who are appointed into leadership and senior positions. My colleagues need safety in the workplace and I would ensure that I uphold high standards of safety in dispensing my clinical services and in disposing of wastes. I would endeavor to extend social support to my colleagues especially in terms of comforting them when they undergo difficult situations like the loss of a patient or loved one. In conjunction with the organization’s management, I would invite resourceful people including established medical practitioners into the organization’s internal functions in order to impart their valuable knowledge to our staff. When my colleagues call on me to cover for them with genuine reasons, I stand in for them. I will endeavor to proactively participate in departmental activities including meetings. I would ensure that I help my colleagues in setting short-term and long-term professional goals and we would challenge each other to strive to achieve our individual goals (Jasper et. al. 56).
